Description

Patented May 28, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT "OFFICE."
THEODOR SABALITSCHKA, OF B ERLm-STEGLITZ, AND HEINRICH JAGOBSON,
F BERLIN-113mm, GERMANY;
DISINFE CTIN'G.
No Drawing, Application filed December 22, 1925, Serial No. 77,119, and in Germany December 24,, 1924.
Our invention relates to improvements in disinfecting preparations and the process of manufacturing the same, and more particularly in preparations usingan ester of hydroxybenzoic acids as a disinfecting agent. It is known in the art that the esters of the salicylic acid, the alkyl ester as well as the phenyl esters, have disinfecting properties,
for which reason the said substances have' degree.
We have discovered that only the ester of the orthohydroxybenzoic acid is poisonous, and that non-poisonousdisinfectingpreparations are obtained when using the esters of the meta-or parahydroxybenzoic acids and more particularly the alkyl esters of the said compounds. These alkyl esters of the metaand parahydroxybenzoic acid are odorless and non-poisonous. Further, what is important from a practical pointof view, they are solid crystallizable substances, so that they may be incor orated with preparations such as soaps, liqui s for cleanin the mouth, ointments, pastes, and the like aving hi h disinfecting properties, and having no 0 or or taste of the active disinfecting medium.
Emilmple Jr- 150 grammes of-an alkyl ester .of the meta or parahydroxybenzoic acid.
' the mouth.
Example- 2.0.05 grammes of an alkyl ester of the metaor parahydroxybenzoic acid are added to 0.5 gramme of sugar and pressed to tablets. After bein dissolvedin water the preparation is use for vaginal cleansing;
Example 5.To soap containing yolk, such as ray soap, we add 5% of an alkyl ester Since in the ortho compounds the substituents are connected to adjacent carbon atoms in the benzene ring, and since in the metaand paracompounds, the substituents are connected to non-adjacent carbon atoms, the term. non-adjacent hydroxybenzoic acid will hereinafter be used to define the said metaand paracompounds.
We claim:
1. The herein described improvement in the art of disinfection which comprises applying to the material to be disinfected, a substance containing an ester of a non-adja-. cent hydroxybenzoic acid.
2. The herein described improvement in the art of disinfection which comprises ap- 1 ing to the material to be disinfected, a. substance containing an alkyl ester of a nonadjacent hydroxybenzoic acid.
In testimony whereof we hereunto afiix our signatures.
DB. THEODOR SABALITSCHKA. HEINRICH JACOBSON.
