This invention relates to apparatus for the operation and locking of the floor doors installed at the various floors of an elevator shaft; It is desirable in this type of-door to pro vide simple and efiicient meansffor sliding the door from open to closed position and vice versa,while an'el'evator is at a corresponding floor, but it is also essential that these doors be so looked that when an elevator leaves the floor, they cannot be opened by a prospective passenger on the outside of the door to permit of accident hazards. e
In accordance with the present invention, I provide a double safeguard against the leaving of floo'rdoors unlocked and accomplish this result throughthe employment of improved mechanism. In its preferred practioal form, the invention embodies a toggle, the terminal of one link of which is pivoted to the door casing and the other link of which is pivoted intermediate its ends to the door. Adjacent the end of the link, which is pivoted to the door, is a suitable handle by means of which'the toggle may be flexed to impart sliding movement' to the'door. Associated with the door is a latch and on the manually operable link adjacent the handle is a stop or keeper, preferably a stepped keeper, comprising a plurality of shoulders or stops and with these shoulders the latch'is adapted to cooperate. 1 V When the toggle is flexed to close the door and approaches a position of alinement of these links, the latch is adapted to traverse the shoulders of the keeper in succession and if the door is completely closed the latch will engage with the last step to lock the door-in closed position. If however the door is not completely closed, the latch will engage with one of the other shoulders so that eventhough the door is not wholly closed, it will nevertheless be locked against further opening. I
also associate with the toggle as a precautionary measure a switch which is included in the elevator controlling circuit or some other circuit on which the operation of the elevator is dependent and so organize the parts that this switch will not be closed unless the toggle is in a position to fully close the door. I thus not only providefor a locking of the door against opening from either a closed or partially closed condition, but also make it impo'ssible'for the elevator to leave the floor until the door hasv locked.
