Description

H! RICHARDSON.
SULKY-PLOW. v N 171427 Patented 12%.21, 1875.
METERS FHOTOUTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D Q
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HAMILTON RICHARDSON, OF JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN SULKY-PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,427, dated December 21, 1875; application filed November 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown thatI, HAMILTON RICHARDSON, of J anesville, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sulky-Plows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains'to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a sulkyplow, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The accompanying drawing fully illustrates my invention.
A represents the axle, bent substantially in the manner shown in the drawing, and provided with the plate B, to' Which the tongue or pole of the ,sulky is to be attached. The rear end of the plate Bis, by a rod, O, connected with the end of the axle A, and on this rod slides the coupling D for attaching the plow to the sulky. This rod O can be moved to the right or left by sliding the plate B on the axle and moving the lower end of the rod by means of two nuts, ac, screwed on the end of the axle. Theobject of this is to adapt the sulky to plows of different widths, and by the same means the rod can be tilted either to the right or left, so as to lit the holding device to plows with beams that are not perpendicular. E is a plate attached to the axle A, and to which the spindle attachment'G is pivoted in the ordinary manner. This plate is movable upon the axle, and, by means of the screw b, which works in and connects it with the brace H, is moved slightly in or out, thus controlling the set of the wheel so as to cause it to run to or from the land, as the make of the plow requires. I is a rod, attached at one end to the axle near the left wheel, and the other end to the brace J, as shown. This rod is raised or lowered on the brace by means of two nuts, 61 d, screwed on the brace, and is intended to hold the plow in the ground to any required depth by resting on the top of the beam. The coupling D is, by a chain, 6, connected with a ratchet device, L, on the axle, thereby suspending the plow so that it cannot run deeper than required.
Having thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r l. The adjustable rod 0, running from the axle A to the plate B, and having the plowcoupling D placed thereon, substantially as and axle A, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of October, 1875.
HAMILTON RICHARDSON.
