This invention relates to luggage carrying devices apphed to automobiles.

Such carriers are customarily secured to the running board, used as a step in entering.

and leaving a car, by bolts or like fastenings, -which, due to the vibration of the car when operating, are prone to become loosened, causing annoyance from the sound engendered and not infrequently loss of parts includingthe article carried.

Moreover, the perforations intthe running board are objectionable, as they tend to weaken the same and areunsightly.

It is therefore an object to provide an efficient device whereby luggage of any ordinary type may be safely secured on the exterior of a car without mutilating or disfiguringit.

A further feature is in the provision of one or more bars permanently fixed to the splash plate at a spaced distance outwardly therefromto which straps or like flexible fastening means may be engaged, the weight of the luggage being taken preferably by the running board below.

Another purpose is in the production of a simple and inexpensive device, which may be relied on to perform its functions. V 7

These advantages are attained by the novel and practical construction and arrangement of parts hereafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, forming part hereof, and in which:

Extending from the ends of the running board are mud guards 6 and 7 respectively over the front and rear wheels as shown.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple device for this purpose has been disclosed in'the preferred form of its embodiment, but it is not desiredto restrict thedetails to the exactinstruction shown, it being obvious that changes, not involving the exerelse of 1nvent1on, may be resorted towithout conflicting with the scope. of the appended claim.
