Description

May 21, 1929.
K. KUHN 'DEVICE FOR STRENGTHEQINQ THE GUIS Filed July 1a, 1927 Patented May 21, 1929.
UNITED STATES KUHN, OF HEIDELBEBG, GERMANY.
DEVICE FOR STRENGTHENING THE GUMS.
Application filed July '18, 1927. Serial No. 208,764.
' v This invention relates to. a device for strengthening the gums and for cleaning the teeth thoroughly.
The device comprises two plates, spread asunder by spring-pressure and designed to take up the chewing pressure. Each of these plates has an edge along the boundary-line which is arranged so that during the chewing movement it cleansv the teeth.
An embodiment of the invention is illus- 'trated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing in Fig. 1 in top plan View.
Fig. 2 in side elevation.
Figure 3fi-is a section on the line 3- 3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow. 7
Two semi-circular elements a, b, are connected the one with the other by an elastic connecting piece a which serves atthesame -time asv handle. Between the arms of the connecting .piece 0, a springd is arranged in an according incurvature constituting sockets h for the spring ends and which permanently spreads said arms. On each element a, b an elastic plate 6 is fixed the shape of which corresponds to that of the sets of teeth, each plate having anfupwardly directed edge f which is to be painted with a paste so that it cleans the teeth during -the chewing movement.
' The bearing-surfaces for the teeth are un dulated and have each 'on the inner end a bead.
g designed to prevent slipping of the teeth.
I claim:
1. A device for the purpose stated compris- .35 ing a pair of arcuate plates having integrally formed handle members extending from the convex edges of the plates and united at their extremities to constitute a unitary structure, means interposed between said handle members adjacent said arcuate plates constantly tending to effect separation of said plates from one another, plates of elastic material mountedon said arcuate'plates and each having an upstanding marginal flange adjacent their convex edges, said plates of elastic ma terial also each having a marginal rib upstanding adjacent the concaved edge thereof,
said flanges being of materially greater depth I than said beads, and said'plates of elastic material ghaving their bearing surfaces undulated. 2. A device for the purpose stated com-. prising a pair of arcuate plates, flat handle members integrally formed with said plates and extending rearwardly therefrom and then inwardly toward one another and united by a curved portion, each of said handle members having a concavity, a coil spring located between said handle members with its ends 9 in said concavities, and plates of elastic material mounted on said arciiate plates.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
