UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LESLIE H. THOMPSON, GUIDE ROCK, NEBRASKA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WATER-ELEVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,330, dated December 21, 1875; application filed April 24, 1875. g
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LESLIE H. THOMPSON, of Guide Book, in the county of Webster and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Water-Elevator; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a front view of my wind-wheel, and Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are detail views of the same.
This invention has relation to elevators for raising water; andth'e'nature of my invention consists in a chain-bucket having the form of the segment of a circle, and provided at one of its corners with a discharge-tube, in combination with a chute and an open-sided guide, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, on the shaft I a spurred wheel, F, is keyed, over which a chain, J, is passed, which chain carries a number of buckets, L, having the form of hollow seg- At the middle of the length of each bucket is a transverse opening, h, one lip of which projects beyond the other, for the purpose of readily taking the water when the bucket is submerged. At one corner of each bucket L is a tubular outlet, 25, which discharges the water from the bucket when upset. N designates a discharge-spout, from which rises a chute, N, one side of which is open to receive the tubular outlet tand guide the buckets during their descent, and conduct the water discharged from the buck ets into the chute N.
By these means I render unnecessary, in a chain-bucket, the use of valves and tripping devices for discharging the water from the buckets into the chute N.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. Buckets L, of the form described, and having openings h and discharge-tubes t, substantially as described. 7
2. The chute N and open receiving-guide N, combined with chain-buckets L, having discharge-tubes t, as described.
In testimony that I claim theabove I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
LESLIE H. THOMPSON.
