The marker andV adhesive applicator is attached to the underside of the plate 20, one such applicator being shown in plan view in'Fig. 2 and in section in Fig. 3. lVhile' the designs and forms of these markers and applicators may be varied optionally, the
one shown comprises a flange 24 which` is tapered. in cross section (Fig. 3), and'which approximately defines ,a' crescent-shaped area (-F ig. 2). Within the area defined by the flange 24: are numerous tapered projections 25v 'whosejends are in the same plane as theedgeof the flange 24, and which are' disposed in such relationship that "they will pickup. the adhesive substance from the 'pan 4 and carry and applyitto the materials o'r workgupoii the plate 6.
As shown in Fig. 2, the area defined or enclosed Within the flange 24 may be further subdivided as by an approximately circular' flange 26 forming an enclosed area in 'which there are an appropriate number of projections 27. The flange 26 and projections 27 have their edges andvends respectively in the saineI plane as the flange 24: and the projections 25.
In operation, the material or woi'k upon which areas are'to be marked and within which marked areas the adhesive substance is to be applied is placed' upon theplate 6 and properly located by the forms 7 'The die carrier is then swung rearwardly and downwardly, causing the parts 24, 25, 26 and 27 to contact with the adhesive subhesive substance adheres to said parts 24, 25, 26 and 27. The die carrier is then swung forwardly and downwardly to press the ends and edges of the parts 24, 25, 26 and 27 -upon the material or work held in`proper 1o cation lby'the forms 7. The adhesive substance is thereby withdrawn fromthe mark# er and adhesive applicator and deposited upon the work or material. The adhesive substance deposited by the flange 24 and by the flange 26,if the saine be present, .defines *marked areas "upon the'work or material, lwithin -which'marked areaa sufficient quan-l tity Y the projections 25 and 27. Next, the other piece'of workor material `which is to be ended to the one marked and provided with of adhesive substance is deposited by-` adhesive substancev aforesaid, is placed upon themarked area in properposition and,
under proper pressure, becomes adhesivelyfi" united.' These operations may he carried on rapidly and easily so that the parts may he adhesively united in proper relationship with the exercise of greatcare Aand by imskilled operatives.
