A discharge pipe 46 leading trom the lower chamber 12 has its intake end arranged at a higher level than the discharge opening 1G in the pipe 15 and thus maintains a fluid seal at the bottom of pipe 1:3.

This movement pir mits the ball valve 27 to be. presi-fed te seatand thus prevents the adir' :on of air tl'iroughl the air inletjchamber The rcsulting partial vacuum in chamber 11 produces an inflow of fuel through the pipe As the fluid level rises in chamber 11, the .float 28 elevatcs the pivot 4() ot spri rod `V 37 until the impression spring 45 hec-emes suitably disposed to force the lever arm 232 downwardly. This movement produces a `rapid upward displacement of the rod 1S to close the vacuum port 23 while at the same timeopening the discharge outlet 1G and forcing the ball-valve 27 from its seat. This operation breaks-the partial vacuum in chamber 11 to interrupt the inllow of tuel inlet, fuel discharge, air inletV and vacuum openings, thek combination with a. reciprocatory rodffor controlling said openings, o't a pivotallyV mounted lever movably connected lto said i'eeipi'oeatoiy rod, a float reciprocable on and relatively to said rod, a link conv. neeted to and actuated by said float, means for constraining` the movement et said link, and a yieldable connection between said link Hand-said lever, said yieldable connection comprising' a spring rod Vmovably connected toJ saidv link and movably engaging said lever,` and a spring mounted on said spring- 'rod'fand' transmitting pressure between said link and lever for imparting a bias to said lever tending` to retain said reciprocaiory rod in either of its extreme positions.

The combination with a tank provided with a fluid-receiving chamber having a valve seat Vthrough which fluid is passed and a. vacuum-control valve-seat coaxial with the i'irst-mentmied valve-seat, a reci procatory rod provided at opposite ends with valves adapted to seat on said valve-seats alternately, a pivotally mounted lever having one arm movably connected to said reciprocatory rod and the other arm thereof provided with a. spring abutment, a float reciprocahle with and relatively to said reciprocablc rod, a link pivotally mounted at one end on said `float, a spring rod pivotally connected to the other end et said link and having a spring abutment adjacent to that end, the other end of said spring rod being reciproeably mounted in the first-mentioned abutment on said other arm of said lever, and a spring` interposed between said abutments on said spring rod.
