My invention relates toa, childs toy and the main object is to provide a simple, inexpensive and useful toy embodyin'g' a number of features making the device not only` a very attractive and interesting toy for small children butialso a 'useful device for storing childrens playthings and other articles.

These andother objects of my invention will be fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which,-` y N Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the toy, a portion ofone side wall being broken away to expose the interior construction.

Referring to the drawing by reference numerals my improved toy comprises mainly an upwardly open box or body 5, preferably elongated, and its four lower corners mounted on cast-crs (3; The walls of thisV box may have any suitable designs, figures or lettering, and in Fig. 1, 7 designates two windows between which is a one piece door 8, normally in vertical position in the plane with its wall but hinged at its lower edge so that it may be swung out and down to rest on the floor, indicated as 8R in Fig. 1. Thus the door itself serves in 'its lowered position as a runway for toy auto n'obiles to enter or leave the box when a child uses the device in play as a garage.

Around the upper perimet =r of the box, I prefer to secure a reinforcin'g molding 9, which may have one or two sections Qs at both sides hinged as at 10 to be swung out horizontally at right angles as to positions indicated Qs' in Fig. 1 to serve as supports for the hinged top 11 which will now be described.

The cover or top of this play device comprises preferably two like sections of board llnormally closing the top and each said section is hinged as at 12 at the opposite corners. Each said board maybe a single piece, or two pieces llA--llB (Fig. 2) of which 11A is the top one. and 11B inay be swung out to a horizontal plane away from the edge of the box and rest on the extended arms 9s thus forming two ledges or shelves one at each side of the open box. Or, as shown in Fig. 2, the arms Both sections 11A i are not used: but the entire board is swung out and allowed to hang from the hinge (see dotted lines of 11A and 1113).` In another selective placement of the top, sections 11B are permitted to lie in their box closing position. and sections llA are swung out to horizontal plane as 11 in Fig. 2, the outer edge of said section' bearing inwardly against the outer edge of section 1113. Thus sections 11B remain in the box-closing position and sections 11^ are extended sidewise in a common l'oriztmtal plane therewith providing a useful table for childb play.

One or more of the sul-faces of either sections llAf-llB may be prepared with a black surface, preferably that surface of section v 11B which is exposed `loutvw'rdly when said section is hanging down from hinge 12 and outwardly of the side wall of the box. This colored surface serves as; `a` blackboard on which a child can make chalk marks.

` In Fig.` 1 13-141 designates a plain seat arranged transversely across the end of the box opposite the door end, and this seat is made by simply fixing a vertical front board 13 between the side wallsof the boxyand 14': is a horizontal board with its front edge resting on board 13 and its rear edge hinged at 15 to the adjacent end wall. Thus board 14 serves not only as a seat but may be raised on its hinges so that toys and other articles inay be stored thereunder.

16 in Fig. 1 represents a retaining rope parallel to and spaced upwardly of the front corners of the seat lil-1d, being suitably ren'ovably fixed, to the opposite side walls by eye-screws 17 or equivalent means. This rope is so placed as to be directly in front of a child seated on board 14: and prevents the child from falling forward.

18 is a pulling bar of any suitable type and preferably hinged to the upper part of one end wall so as to hang therefrom when not in use but not touch the fioor.

As a'useful article, aside from being a useful toy as described it is obvious that this device is readily drawn about on the floor and toys and other articles which are to be stored away temporarily are placed in the box and it is easily rolled to a closet, under a table or any place desired until needed again. lt is desirable to have rubber faced rollers on the casters 6 to prevent marking of highly polished fioors.

The structure specified in claim 1 in which said cover sections comprise. each a pair of identicalboards pivotally secured tohcommon hinge members at outer corresponding corners of the box and'one board of each pair adapted to cover a portion of the box and the otler board to be swung outwardly and be supported in a common plane with said firstmentioned board.
