The main object of this invention is to provide a container of the tvpe having sealed end closing flaps with means facilitatingthe opening to aord access to the contents or removal thereof and effective recloslng.. y

A further object is to provide a container having closure means of this character which does not add materially to the cost of the container and is at the same time very convenient to manipulate.

Objects relating to details and economies of my invention will appear from the detailed description to follow. The invention is defined and pointe out in thet claims.

A structure which kis a preferred embodinient f my invention is illustrated 1n the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:

Referring to the drawing, my improved box or container is preferably formed of an integral blank as shown in Fig. 2, 'the blank consisting of

side wall portions

1, 2, 3 and 4, the side wall having a sealing Hap 5 at its 4.5 outer edge. These sidewall portions have bottom flaps 6', 7,8 and 9 which are folded and sealed together in the usual manner.

The top of the container is provided with closing flaps `10, 11, 12and 13, the iaps 11 5o and 13 being the inner aps andiwhen closed their edges lie in spaced relation. The liaps l0 and 12 overlieV the flaps 11 and 13, the overlapping portions of t e flaps 10 and 12 being sealed together by means of a suitable `55l adhesive.

The flaps 10 and 12have aligned-severing Lthereby opening the container scores or

perforations

14 and 15, the Hap 10 also having a cross slit 16 extending between its severing perforations 14.

The outermost flap 12 has a curved slit 17 disposed centrally between its transverse severing perforations 15, the slit 17 forming a tongue-like member 18 with which a fingernail or an.iinplement may be engaged to facilitate opening the container.

At the ends of the slit l are severing perforations 19, these perforations extending to the transverse severing perforations 15.

The outermost flap 12 is also provided with tongue-forming slits 20 which form laterally projecting tongues 21 which extend beyond the transverse severing perforations or scores 14 of the underlying flap 10.

The slits 16 and V17 are formed at the overlapping portions of the

flaps

10 and 12 and are spaced so that when the container is opened, a pair of oppositely swinging

closure members

22 and 23 are provided, the

ends of theclosure members overlapping.

In opening the container, or an implement is engaged in the slit 17 and pulled. upwardly which ruptures the container along the severing lines described, and forming two closure members. To reclose the carton, the member 22 is first swung downwardly, the member 23 then swung to closed position with its endoverlapping the end 22, and the tongues 2O arey snapped under the edges of the closure members thereby retaining the` closure members.

I have illustrated and described my iinprovements in a satisfactory embodiment. I have not attempted to illustrate adaptations to other forms of containers as it is believed this `disclosure will enable those skilled in theart to embody or adapt my improvements as may be desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A container, the end of which is closed by spaced inner `flaps and overlapping outer flaps sealed together, said overlapping llaps having transverse spaced and aligned severing perforations, the outer of said overlapping flaps having tongue forming slits therein merging with its said transverse severing` perforations and providing lateral tongues projecting beyond the transverse severing perforations of the innerof said overlapping flaps, the inner of said overlapping ilaps having a cross ,slit between its said transverse severing perforations, the outer of said over.- lapping flaps having a curved cross slit connected to its said transverse severing perforations by severing perforations, said curved slit providing a hold member facilitating the rupturing of the iiaps along said severing perforations providing a pair of closure members having overlapping end'pertions, one of which has laterally projecting tongues engageable with the edges of the closure opening for retaining the'closure members in closed position after the container has been initially opened.

A container, the end of which is closed by spaced inner flaps and overlapping outer iiaps sealed together, said overlapping flaps having transverse spaced and aligned severing perforations, the igner of said overlappin'gflaps having a cross slit between its saidtransverse severing perforations, vthe outer of said overlapping flaps having a curved cross slit connected to its said transverse severing perforations by severing perorations, said curved slit providing a hold member facilitating the rupturing of the flaps along said severing perforations providing a pair of closure members having overlapping end portions.

5. A container having overlapping closing flaps sealed together, said flaps having transverse spaced aligned severing perforations, the inner lapshaving a cross slit between its said transverse severing pcrforations and the outer flap having a cross slit to facilitate grasping, and severing perforations from the ends of such slit to said transverse perforations, said cross slits being arranged in spaced relation in the overlapping parts of the flaps so that when the flaps are ruptured along said severing perforations, a pair of' closure members having overlapping ends are provided, the longer of said closure members .having laterally projecting retaining tongues engageable with the edges ot the closure opening.

6. A container having overlapping closing flaps sealed together said flaps having transverse spaced aligne severing perforations, the inner iiaps having a cross slit between its said transverse severing perforations and the outer flap having a cross slit to facilitate grasping, and severing perforations from the ends of such slit to said transverse perforations, said cross slits being arranged in spaced relation in the overlapping parts of the flaps so that when the iiaps are ruptured along said severing perforations, a pair of closure members having overlapping ends is provided.

7. A container `having overlapping closing flaps sealed. together, said flaps having spaced transverely aligned severing scores extending "across the container, said flaps also having in their overlapping portions cross severing scores positioned bet-Ween said transverse severing scores and spaced to providecoengaging closure parts/iso that when the flaps are ruptured along said cross and transverse severing scores, a pair of closing members having overlapping ends is provided, the longer of said closure members having a retaining tongue engageable with an edge of the closure openinv.

8. A container having overlapping closing flaps sealed together, said flaps having spaced transversely aligned severing scores extending across the container, said flaps also having in vtheir overlapping portions cross severing scores positioned between said transverse Severin scores and spaced to provide coengaging c osure parts so that when the flaps are ruptured along said cross 'and transverse. severmg scores, a pair-of closing ,members having overlapping ends is promy hand.
