Application filed December a, 1921. Serial at. 288,578.
The knob 22, which contains the bell and fly inventionrclates to door knobs and re fers more-particularly to a door knob bell or alarm. I
One object of my invention is to produce 5 a door knob alarm wherein the alarm or hell,
together with the mechanism for operating the same is a part of the knob itself.
Anothei'object of my invention'consists in a door knob alarm wherein one knob comprises the alarm and the operating mechanism therefor and the other .k'nob contains the push button for operating the'same.
It is well known. in the art that combina.-
tions of door'bclls and door knobs have been used but none of them contemplate'the particular combination of parts and the-method of operation utilized in this specific device.
I accomplish this resultby means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views, in whic of the device as applied to a door. Figure 2, is an enlarged view of a side elevation of the plate with the operating mechanism assembled thereon.
Figure 3, is a front elevation of Figure 2.
The door 1, with the lock 2, screwed thereto 3 by the serews3 and 4, with the bolt 5, and
latch 6, has the plate 7, with the boss 8, an the plate 9, with the boss 10; which bosses carry the ends of the knobs in the same manner as in all doors The knob 11, is provided 12; into which rod has a female'thread at 15, to engage with the male with an opening button, and the rod 16 also has a stop pin near the end 19 which end is rounded and isadapted to en age with the mechanism for operating the ell.
The extension rod 16 is guided through the hole 20, of the, knob 22, and the rod 13, is guided by the Hole 21, in the knob 11, and the threaded partsl7 and. 15, provide for any adjustment that may be required to suit ditierent thicknesses of doors.
In place of the solid square rod ordinarily used to connect the knobs together, a square tube 23, is used whichh'as a number of threaded openings 24, in which the set screws 25,
may fit, these holes providing for any ad ust- I5 ment that may be required to suit different thicknesses of doors;
oration,
the operating mech-, "anism, has a-lug 33,- notched out at 34, and
Figure 1, is an elevation, partly in section,-
rotatable, together with anescapem 45, both of which are pivoted to the plate d ed a awl 47 pivoted at which slides the head of the rod 13,
thread 17, on the exten-. sion rod 16,- said rods constituting the push the mechanism for-ringing the; same, 18 comv prised of three main parts, a .base which consists ot'fa round stemwith a square opening thereinto hold the square tube from which stem 2 cupl sha'ped piece projects inside of which is a loss or flange or car 27, hold by the rivets 28 and 29 a late '30 andthis flange is offset far enough rom the centerlineof the knob to bringthe bell ringing mechanism in the proper position for easy op- The plate 30, holding threaded at 35, to which thebell 36, shaped to fit over the dish shaped base 37, is screwed by the screw 38,. and this bell h'as'a boss in the interior that has a projection 39, adapted .to engage with the; notch 34, for the purpose of preventing ,the bell from turning after it isscrewed into place. 1 "Upon this plate 30, is pivoted a segment piece 40, by the pivot '41, said segment having an extension 42, which is provided with a hole-43..
- This segment meshes with a gear 44, held ent wheel 30 by the pivot 46.
Upon this escapement wheel 45, is mount- 48, to this wheel 45, whic pawl has a ring 49, attached thereto, the end of whic rests against a pin 50, fixed in the wheel 45.
This pawl engages the gear wheel 44, so that when thesegment 40, is movedin the direction of the arrow, shown in Fi re 2, the gear will engage with the pawl an carry around the escapement wheel and when the segment is moved backward by the spring 51,.connected to thearm 42, through the hole 43, and the lug 52, on the plate 30, throu h the hole 53 therein, he pawl will ride fr y "over thegear wheel 44 and'the escapement ring thebell.
In 9 ration, when thepush button 14, is
adapted to I push in, it forces the rods 13 and'lfi against the s egment cansin the gearwheel $4, to r'evolveand with it t e escapement'wheel push button-with a pintherein and a line:
