Description
April 23, 1929. A. c. HAWKINS S SEAT AT'iACHMENT FOR WATER CLOSET SEATS CHILD Filed Jan. 5, 1928 Patented Apr. 23, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AGNES CECELIA HAWKINS, OF OROFINO, IDAHO.
Application filed January 3, 1928. Serial No. 244,276.
This invention relates to a childs seat attachment for water closet seats, the object of the invention being to provide a seat attachment whereby a child may be supported upon a closet seat and furnished with a seat opening of requisite size, which attachment is adjustable for application to toilet seats of dilt'erent sizes, and which attachment is capable of being easily and conveniently washed and maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.
In the accompanying drawings,-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a water closet bowl and seat and showing the application of the invention to the seat.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the seat and attachment.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of the same. Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
1 represents a toilet bowl, 2 its hingedseat, and 3 the attachment.
The attachment 3 is an auxiliary seat of the same general shape as the seat 2 and adapted to cover the same and overlie more or less of the opening in the seat 2, the auxiliary seat or cover 3 having an opening 4 of less size than the opening in the seat and of a size to suit certain sizes of children. The attachment 3 is made of ducking, muslin or other washable textile fabric and is provided at its front and sides with an inturncd flange 5 to receive the front and side edges of the seat 2 and extend under the bottom of said seat 2. At its rear the attachment 3 is open so that it may be slidably fitted upon the seat 2 from the front and withdrawn from engagement therewith by a reverse movement. At its rear the attachment 3 attachment straps 6 and 7 connected with the flange 5 at opposite sides thereof and one having a buckle and tongue for engagement with the perforated end of the other, whereby the open end of the attachment may be contracted to hold said attachment against displacement on the seat 2. The rear portion of the attachment may be made wider than the widest portion of a closet seat of given size, so that through the elasticity of the fabric of which the attachment is made, and the adis provided withjustability afforded by the straps 6 and 7, the attachment is adapted for application to toilet seats of different sizes within given limits.
It will be observed that the attachment may be quickly applied to a seat for use and as easily removed when desired and provides a sanitary toilet accessory of great convenience to those having young children, as the device may be usedin the home or conveniently packed in roll or flat form for convenient transportation and use on railway trains,
steamers, hotels, etc. Its construction adapts it to be readily washed and kept clean. i
It is to be understood, of course, that when desired, the device may be made of rubberized cloth or other kinds of waterproof fabric.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim A seat attachment for closet seats comprising a seat body of flexible material and having an opening to overlie the opening in the closet seat, said body having an outline form conforming generally with that of the closet seat and provided at its front and sides thereof with an inturncd portion or flange to receive the corresponding marginal portions of the closet seat and to extend under said seat, brackets at the sides of said body and provided with loops, a strap engaging said loops for securing a child in position on the N seat, and a fastening extending transversely beneath the seat and adjustably connecting the ends of the flange at the rear of the seat body.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
AGNES CECELIA HAWKINS.
