The cope rammer is shown in detail in Figs Q to 6. i This consists of two parts, namely, an outer part3l for ramming the rim andweb of the wheel and a second part 32 for f ramming within the central member Or dish 15' of the flask part.- Theseparts are mount ed for, con olnt movement 1n, lifting them into and out of position and for independent ramming action. To this end brackets 33 are mountedupon the top or ba'ckof the rammerpart 31 and this provides bearings 34 through whichslidably pass bolts 35 taking at their lower endsintothe rammer part 32 vand engaged at their upper ends in a cross member 36 carrying a U -bOlt 37 to permit power handlingof the rammer. 3 while at the same time permitting the simultaneous ramming by meansof the two rammers 31 and'32.
The rammer part 31 is provided with a plurality of downwardly extending projections 41 adapted to enter between the braces orribs 16 of the cope. These projections have downwardly extending lips 42 at their ends/and centrally disposed extensions 43 adapted to ram the sand in the dished part of the wheel rim. The rammer part 32 is hollow at its center at 44 to. receive the sectionaldish 45 and this rannn'er part is faced o'fiat 46'on the curve shown to round off the sand about the dish opening.
In the making of a mould, the drag 11 is first placed over a'suitable pattern, which is positioned ona jolt machine and filled with moulding sand orpthe like in the usual'manne rj q The dr ag'raminer is then brought over ably by means of a crane and controlled bythe lower surface of the drag ran'imer, 'ihc' cope 12 is then similarly treated and the mould is then assembled as shown in lligure 1, with the chill ring 1% between the cope and drag and the several cores set in position, after which the metal may be poured.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing all of its material advanta. es, the form hereinbefore dcscriocd bcingmercly a preferred embodiment thereof.
We claim:
1. In combination with a cope for moulding car wheels, said cope including-an outer cylindrical member and an inner dish joined to said outer member. by spaced ribs to receive the sand to be rammed, a cope ramn'icr therefor, comprising a main ramming weight having a central aperture and provided on its under side with a plurality of spaced apart depending projections adapted to enter between the spaced apart braces or ribs of the cope, and a second weight mounted within the framework of said first member and relatively movable with. respect. thereto, said second weight having a central aperture to receive a sectional head and provided with a curved under surface to round off the sand about the dish opening.
2. A flask vrammer for car wheel molds,
comprising a plate-like member apertured in I comprising a weight consisting of a plate formed with a central perforation, said plate having on its under side a series of substantiall y radially downwardly projecting fingers spaced apart, said plate having anupstanding bracket adjacent its central opening and a second weight in the form of a centrally apertured member mounted on said bracket for vertically shifting movement.

comprising a first weight having a central aperture provided with depending spaced apart fingers and a second weight separated from said first weight and adapted to overlie the aperture of said first weight, said second weight having a central aperture;

A flask rammer for car wheel m0lds, comprising a weight having a central apcrture provided with depending spaced, apar lingers, a second weight mounted on said first weight so to overlie the central aperture thereof, said second weight having a central aperture adapted to receive a sectional head, the bottom wall of'said second weight being curved from its outer periphery downwardly toward the inner edge of the inner. wall of its aperture.
7. A flask rammer for car wheel mol'ds,
comprising a weight in the form of a circu-' lar plate provided with depending spaced apart fingers and provided with-arelatively large central opening, a pair- 0f upstanding brackets adjacent said opening, said brackets being provided with inwardly'projecting bearings, bolts slidable through said bearings, a second substantially cylindrical weight provided with a central aperture having threaded openings to threadedly receive said bolts, the bottom portion of said second weight being curved downwardly and inwardly fromits outer wall to said opening, and a cross yoke carriedby the upper end of said bolts and being constructed and arranged to permit said weights to be lifted. i
8. A flask rammer for car wheel. molds, comprising a weight in the form of a substantially circular plate having a relatively large central opening and provided on its' under surface with substantially radially spaced apart depending fingers of tapering cross-section, said fingers being deeper at their outer ends and inclined toward their inner ends, the inner ends of said fingers having downwardly extending lips. y

In combination with a flask part having inner and outer cylindrical'parts united by spaced ribs for receiving sand to be rammed, a rammer comprising interconnected inner and outer weights, eachformed with a central perforation, one of ,saidweights registering with the aperture in the other weight. 1

In combination with a flask part having inner and outer cylindrical parts joinedby spaced apart ribs, a rammer comprising inner and outer weights, adjustably interconnected, each of said weights having underwheels, in combination with a flask part in-- eluding inner and outer 'cylindrical members spaced apart and joined by spaced apart ribs, a rammer comprlsing inner and outer V weights, each having central openings, one
of said weights lyingbetween the inner and outer members of .the flask part and the other of said weights being arranged to lie within the inner member of the flask part, said weights being wholly loose and being capable of being jolted so as toram the sand between the inner and outer members or" the flask part and between the central opening of the inner member of thefiaskpart. v
12. An apparatus for moulding car wheels comprising, in combination with a flask part pattern.

13. The combination of a mold part for use in the casting of car Wheels and having internal sand supporting members or braces, with a ramming Weight comp-rising a body arrangeable above the sand deposited in the said mold part and having projections arranged to pass between said sand supporting braces and shaped to correspond with the face of the pattern beneath the sand, Whereby to give desiredcompactness in the ramming to each portion of the surface of the FREDERICK K.
