As the key 32 is fitted on the key stud 30 and rotated to the 2, the upper ward 88 hasengaged the overlapping flange a3, forcing the latter upwardly, withdrawing the stud pin 4:2 from the recess 4 0 in the levert), the lower ward 38 has engaged the bearing surface 23 el the lever 9, rotating the latter ina counterclockwise direction against the action of the spring 21 and out of engagement with the nose ol the shackle. Up to this point the bolt 1O has its hook engaging the nose o1 the shackle while its other end 27 bears against theprojection 6 et the heel 4 ci the shackle in virtually locked relation. The lever having been thus rotated, its lug 12 has been withdrawn from the notch 14 of the bolt.

Upon vfurther rotation of the key, the ward bearing against the oilset 20, forces the bolt to the right and the hook 24- out of engagement with the nose ol: the shackle; the hook L8 out ot' engagement with the stud 11; and the end 27 out of engagement with the heel of the shackle, as the bolt slides to the right and pivots slightly on the stud 17 under the action of the spring 26.
This renders the shackle free from `the locking elements and the nose removable 'from the casing. ln order, however, to make the release of the nose` more positive position shown in Figureupon the unlocking of the shackle, there is provided a spring 29 coiled about the stud 25 and bearing against .the easing, the other end oil the spring fitting behind'the pro-V jection 6 to Aaccomplish the desired result.
As a further expedient avoid disarrangement and mal function of the two main locking elements, there is arranged therebetween a thin stationary change plate 8.
