BLAYGROUND APPARATUS.
Application filed July 3, 1928. Serial No. 290,259.
This invention relates to playground apparat-us, and has particular reference to an improvement in climbing and sliding struc turesdcsigned to atl'ord amusement and exercise for children.
The present invention primarily aims to provide an apparatus of this character which 1s designed to atl'ord a maximum of safety to the users.
The invention further contemplates a playground apparatus which in addition to aii'ording a maximum climbing area in a minimum of space, provides an indirect passa eway therethrough, a horizontal ladder, iaeonal ladders, an elevated platform and a slide, all of which are combined in such a manner as to render the apparatus compact and braced against collapsing.
Other features reside in the comparative simplicity of construction, the economy with which the same may be produced and erected, and the general eiliciency derived therefrom.
With the above noted and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of arts as will be more full hereinafter set. orth and pointed out in t e claims.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus;
ligure 2 is a plan view thereof on a reduced scale;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view therethrough on an enlarged scale;
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional View on a reduced scale taken approximately on the line 4 4 ot Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the apparatus which is of generally circular configuration and plan includes an'outer circular series of uprights 5 which are connected by vertically spaced arcuate rungs 6, except for one pair of uprights designated at 5".
In addition to the outer series of uprights an inner rectangular series of uprights 7 are provided, the upper ends of which extend above the outer series. Vertieally spaced horizontal rungs 8 connect the uprights 7, and a horizontal platform 9 is supported by the inner series of uprights substantially in a plane with the upper ends of the outer series of uprights. he platform extends outwardly from one side of the inner series of uprights and is supported b the upper ends of the pair of outer upriglits 5B. The uprights 5 are in turn provided with vertically spaced climbing rungs 10 forming a vertical ladder which leads to the outer edge of the platforml). The outer uprights 5 and 5 rights 7 by horizontal rungs 11.
An inclined slide extends downwardly from the platform, dpreferably from an edge opposite the exten ed port-ion of the platform, and said slide is supported intermediate its ends from the outer uprights 5.
Certain of the horizontal rungs 6, 8 and 11 are omitted to forni an indirect passageway 13 thrmigh the structure. A horizontal ladder 14 is built into th/structure in alignment with the intermediate portion of the passageway 13. Inclined ladders 15 are supported between the inner and outer series ot' upriglits. The upwardly projecting ends ot the inner uprights which extend above the platform are connected by rungs 16 to ali'ord a guard rail for the platform. The upper ends of the outer uprights are connected to the outer ends of the inner up rights by inclined brace rods 17.
The brace rods 17 adjacent the upper end of the slide 12 serve as starting balustrades, while the inclinedl brace rods 17 adjacent the uprights 5 serve as grip rails when mount ing the platform from the vertical ladder formed by the uprights 5 and rungs 10.
From the foregoing it will thus be seen that a compact, sato and highly amusing playground apparatus has been devised for the purpose set forth.
