PATENT OFFICE,
JAMES E. WORTMAN, or RIEDEL, MONTANA.
FILTERER iron LAMPS.
Application filed November 22,1927. Serial No. 235,085.-
My present invention has reference'to a vapor lamp of the gasoline or kerosene type,
and my object is the provision of a lamp of this type with a filtering medium that is associated directlywith the vapor tube.
A further object is the provision in a device for this purpose, of a vapor tube which is removably and adjustably secured in the fount of a lamp and which has its inner or lower portion widened to provide a closed tured and is designed to have arranged forcing the periphery of the filtering disc into tight contact with the ends of the vapor tube,-whereby only filtered fuel; can pass throu h the vapor tube and likewisewhcreby the fiTterin'g disc may be readily replaced should the samebecome clogged;
- To the"attainment of .the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement; as definitely claimed.
hereinafter described and In the drawings: r v Figure 1 is a substantially central longitudinal sectional'view, through. the fount of,
a -vapor'lamp showing a vapor tub e therefor in accordance with this invention.
i Figure 2. is a longitudinalsectional View through the lower portion of the vap'o'r'fub e.
' Figure .3 is a bottom plan View: of the vapor-tube, q
diigure t is a transverse sectional view through the ring flange or. cap;
' The fountfor the lamp is ndicated by the numeral '1. The top of the *fount ispro vidcd; with around opening formed with' an inwardly directed flange which is" threaded;
member 2. openin' therethrough through which is screwe I vapor tube 4. "The vapor tube 4-has its bottom; or lower 'portion'widened' and enlpliirged to form thesamewithwhat I will 'terma chamber 5. The outer'wall of. the
chamber is" apertured, as at 6,'. and the side -details herein set forth.
the. outer threaded end 3 of the v In' testimony whereof I of the cross sectionally ro ind chamherbis threaded.
Designed to rest against the a ertured face of the chambert there isa isc -'7 of filtering material" such as 'chamois, or 'thelike. The peripheryof'the filtering, disc 7 is contacted by aninwa'rdly directed flange 8 on the loweror outer end of'a screw "cap or ring flange 9. The member 9 is provided- With interior threads and screwed on-the' outer threaded portion of the chamber 5. Fuel is let "into'the fount in the usual manner and this fuel is mixed with air under pressure and this airunder' pressure forces the fuel in vapor form through the filtering medium 7 and through-the vapor tube and consequently prevents the generator from being clogged The filtering disc'7. may he ii'eadily removed, should the pores thereof become clogged by dirt in the fuel, and to accomplish this it "is merely necessary to remove the member 7 and to replace the filtering.disc.. The vapor tube 4 may be likewise easily removed from the fount by simply removing the'nut 2 and unscrewing the said tube from the nut. illustrated a satisfactory embodiment of my improveddevice, my features of 'invention \Vhile I have a are: capable of extended application andI do not wishto. "be restricted to the ,Having described the invention, I claim: In'a device for'the purpose set forth, a
