UNITED STATES CHARLES C. HALL, OF ALBANY,' OREGON.
FIREPLACE FORM.
Application filed November 23, 1927.
lhis invention relates to newr and usel'nl 1iinprovements in fireplaces, and particularly to i'orins for molding` or forming the saine.
Une object to provide an inside form of such construction that the resultant fireplace will gire proper results, eliminate smoke, and insure a perfect draft.
inother object is to provide a form of this character which willl reduce the cost oil? build- 4 lireplaces.
iinother object is to provide a forni oi this character which is adapteifl for use with n1old ed plastic material, brick, stone, or other maH tcrials. l
llther objects and advantages will be apparent troni the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
ln the drawings:
lfiggure l is a front elevation ot the inside lorm, in position within the fireplace, such lireplace being shown in section.
lligfgure 2 is a side elevation oli lthe forni, the fireplace being in section.
lligure 3 is a perspective View of the foi-in removed liroin the nreplace.
Referring particularly to the accompanyin d rawinoj, the form comprises a lower section l-, and an upper section B, the fornier boing; oi greater dimensions than the latter, and being adapted to 'torni the fireplace openi'n and arcli over 'the .fireplace opening'. Th e portion A includes the side members 10, each having a vertical 'trontedgd with a step or ledrge 11, lthe said step supporting the plate or board 12, which ttori'ns the arch of the fue place. The rear edge oli the side member has a vertical portion 13, and the upwardly and inwardly inclined portion 14, an upwardly tapering,` portion rising from the level of the arch leduje 1l., and the upper end ot the inclined poi ion 14. llt will be noted that the side members 10 are disposed in rearwardly convcrpjne` relation, and connected to said members, and extending, across the vertical portions 13, is a plate or board 16, while a plate or board 17 rests on the inclined et ges 14, and. is secured thereto. Secured to and extending between the rear edges of the upfardly tapering,- portions 15, is a plate 19,
Serial N o. 235,366.
while a plate 2O is secured to and extends between the front edges of' said taperingl portions. The combination of the tapering por tions 15, and the front and rear plates 20 and 19, Jroduce a forni around which is built the throat of the flue of the fireplace. Extending rearwardly from the upper portion oi' the tapering,I members 15, is a transversely arranged box 21, and extending' upwardly in parallel relation to each other, from the upper end of the box, are the front and rear plates 22 and 23, said plates having their ends upwardly inclined 'lio' attachment of the upwardly and inwardly inclined side plates 24;, said box, and the plates 20, 2Q, and 23, produc-ing,l a form around which is built the smoke chamber of the flue. Extending trans versely ot the bottom of the box 21, in close proximity to the plate l0, is an angle iron 25, one flange of which is disposed upwardly through the bottom of the box, and within notches or kei-ls 26, formed .in the ends olf he box. The horizontal flange of the angle iron lies directly beneath and in contact with the lower face of the bottom of the box. This angle iron remains embedded in the molded fireplace, and forms the forward wall oit the ledge of the smoke chamber. 'I he outside torni, shown at 27, is properly spaced from the inside form, so that the material can be poured into the space between such forms, to produce the linished fireplace.
lV hat is claimed is:
An inside form for building a fireplace comprisin a fireplace recess 'forming portion having rearwardly converging side i 7alle and an upwardly and forwardly inclined rear wall, artransverse upwardly extending' flue throat 'forming` portion having a perpendicu lar rear wall and an upwardly and rearwardly inclined front wall, and a smoke box and soot ledge forming portion extending rearwardly 'from the said throat portion, said box portion being notched and carrying the Yliront wall of the soot ledge therein, which ledge is adapted to remain in the niolded fireplace to separate said ledge and throat.
In testin'iony whereof, l allix my signature.
