FREEZER.
Application filed November 12, 1926, Serial No. 148,045. Renewed September 10, 1928.
This'invention relates to improvements in freezers especially adapted for use in freez-- mg ice cream and ices and contemplates a provision of reciprocating paddles or dashers and a scraping mechanism carried by the freezer whereby all of the mixture sticking to the sides and bottom thereof will be readily and easily removedand in so doing the mixture will be thrown upon the paddles or .10 dashers to thoroughly mix and freeze the same.
Another object of the invention comprehends an operating means for the scraping means as well as .the paddles or dashers to provide an operating means which when geared up and due to the eccentric interfitting relation of the various parts it will be noted that both rotary and reciprocatory movement will be imparted to the freezing apparatus;
With the above and other objects in view, the'invention further includes the'following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevationof the invention. Figure 2 is a longitudinal section taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken through aport-ion of the freezing. apparatus. Figure 4 is a similar view taken through the bottom of the freezer and showing the relativeapositions of the scraping apparatus. Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a bucket, and 11 the ice cream freezer, the latter being packed within thebucket 10 in, the 'usualand ordinary manneror mechanically refrigerated. A removable clov sure cap or cover 12 includes a centrally dis- 'posed opening having an upstanding annular flange 13 surrounding the marginal edges I .thereof to receive a housing 14. The bucket 10 also includes a cover 15 having an opening 16 receiving the upper end ofthe housing 14. An annular flange member 17 carried by the cover 15 receives for rotation therein the housing 14. v
Fixed or otherwise secured to the housing 14 is a beveled gear 18 seated upon the periphery of the flanged member 17. A substantially' U-shaped bracket 19 has its endscarried upon the cover 12 of the freezer l1 and disposed an appreciable distance above the beveledgear 18. A pair of driven shafts 20 journaled within the sides of the bracket 19 have a beveled gear 21 carried upon the lowermost shaft and meshed with the beveled gear 18 which is rotated through meshing engagement of a gear 22 correspondingly associated with a small gear 23 carried upon the upper shaft. The upper driven shaft has included upon one end thereof a relatively large gear wheel 24 which is meshed with a driving gear 25 included upon the upper end of a motor shaft from a motor 26 carried by the ,bracket 19. Said motor is held against displacement through the instrumentality of bands 17 carried by the bracket. It will thus be noted upon starting the motor 26 that the gears as mentioned will be caused to rotate. The housing 14 will also rotate within the flange 7 members 13 and 17 and in order that the operation of the housing 14 may be reduced to practical use I provide a cross arm 28 upon the lower end thereof within the freezer 11 and which has pivotally mounted within the ends thereof and the corresponding portions of an additional cross arm 28 the ends of scrapers 29 disposed adjacent the innerside Walls of the freezer 11. Said scrapers will be caused to scrape the innerside walls of the freezer uponsuccessive revolutions of the housing due to the agency of centrifugal force whereby the mixture sticking to the innerside walls of the freezer will be thrown inwardly toward the center thereof to mix the same with the major portion of the mixture. The lower cross arm 29 includes a pivotally mounted scraper fan 31 which is helically pitched as illustrated in Figure 1 to scrape all of the mixture which has settled within the bottom of the freezer.

Fixed to the lower portion of the housing 32 and extended through the housing 14 and adapted for reciprocation therein, is a dasher rod 36 which is also disposed an appreciable distance within the freezer 11.
Fixed to and arranged at spaced intervals upon the dasher rod 36 is a plurality of paddles or dashers 37 which will reciprocate withln the freezer 11 upon successive reciprocations of the dasher rod 36. a It will thus be noted that a novel form of-operating means is provided for-ghis especial type of apparatus, usin one agency of power, will impart rotary movement to the scraper 29 dles. or dashers 39 carried thereon.
In order to provide means for whipping within the freezer 11 and also a reciprocating movement to the dasher rod 36'and padair in the maklng of frozen dainties having smoothness of textures, I provide 'a compressed air pump 38 mounted upon the cover plunger rod 39 withina pump 38 to expel compressed air through a pipe 42 coiled withv in the bucket 10 and encircling the freezer 11. The upper end of the tube 42 is connected to .a flexibletube 43 communicating with the upper free end of the dasher 36.
