My inventionrelates to rock drilling tools -or the like.
It has `for its objecttoprovide an improved drilling mechanism, andfmoreespecially to provide an improvedmechanism ofthe stoper type Ywhereby it -ismadepossible to obtain access to the cleansing fluid supply means readily and quickly. A further object of vmy-invention is toprovidean improvedstoper of the air or water type wherein itispossble to obtain access to the air or .water tubes readily andiquickl-y lforwpurposes of change .or inspection.

As in `a usual construction, cleansing fluid supply means 6 extends axially throughthepiston -2 and into a tappet 3 or drill steel 4 as may be preferred and has its rear end removably connected to the rear head member 7 by suitable mechanism generally indicated by 8 in such manner that the same may be withdrawn from the rear end of the cylinder. The head 7 will be noted to be secured to the cylinder 1 by means of side rods 1() and 11 whose description will be amplified as necessary hereafter. Suitably operatively connected to the drill motor, herein to the head 7, is also a feeding mechanism which may be of any desired typeand herein includes elements 12 and 13, the former of which is a feed piston and the latter a feed cylinder, this feedinof mechanism being adapted, when a foot 14 lierein carried on the end of the feed piston 12 is disposed lagainst la support, to feed ythe-drill motor away from the support `and toward the'work, Vthe feed `being controlled through any usual controlling mechanism, herein incorporated in Va valve mechanism rlwhich also. controlsithe drilling motor.

A screw 27 extending through the rear head 7 from the forward end thereof enters a threaded socket 28 in the opposite side of the flange 24 and serves to draw the other side of the flange into close engagement with the head 7. ySuitable washers ma be interposed between the head 7 and the flange 24 if desired, but as the method of this is obvious, they have not been shown.
The mode of operation of this device will be readily understood. When it is desired to change a tube or secure access to the rear end of the drilling motor for any purpose, the screw 27 is unscrewed from its socket 28 in the flange 24, the nut 26 is slightly backed olf to permit ease of turning the cyilnder 13 about the aXis of the side rod 1l, and then the screw 27 having been withdrawn, the cylinder is swung laterally about the axis of the side rodll as indicated by dotted lines in 3 and free access is had to the mechanism 8. After the necessary inspection or repairs have been made the parts are swung back to original position, the screw 27' inserted and screwed home and the nut 26 tightened.
hile I have in this application, specifically described one embodiment which my invention may assume in practice, it will be understood Vthat this form of the same is shown for purposes of illustration and that the invention may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
vWhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In combination, a drilling` motor comprising a cylinder and heads therefor, side rods maintaining said heads in operative relation to the cylinder, one of said side rods having an extension formed thereon, feeding mechanism for ysaid motor pivotally connected thereto for swinging movement about said side rod extension, and means for locking said feeding mechanism against swinging movement.
2. In combination, a drilling motor comprising a cylinder having heads and side rods holding said heads in assembled relation with respect to said cylinder, one of said side rods being shorter than the other and terminating in front of the rear surface of the rear head, the other of said side rods extending a substantial distance beyond said head, feeding means for said motor, and means for holding said feeding means to said motor including an operative engagement between said longer side rod and said feeding means.
3. In combination, a drilling motor comprising a cylinder and heads therefor held in assembled relation by a pair of side rods, one of said side rods terminating` at its rear end in front of the rear surface of the rear head,
the other of said side rods having a shouloer thereon engaging said rear head at the rear side thereof and having a projection to the rear of said shoulder, feeding mechanism pivotally connected to said projection, and means for holding said feeding means in rigid position with respect to said motor.
4. In combination, a drilling motor havin a plurality of parts, means under tension for holdingthe parts thereof in assembled relation, alined feeding means for said motor normally rigidly connected thereto at the rear end thereof, cleansing means carried by said drilling motor and removaole rearwardly therefrom, and means operable to permit said feeding means to be swung laterally relative to said motor about said holding means as a pivot to permit removal of said cleansing means while the tension of said holding means remains the same. 5. In combination, a drilling mot-or having a plurality of parts, elements acting under tension for holding the parts thereof in assembled relation, feeding means for said inotor, means for securing said feeding means to said drilling motor including one of said motor holding elements and a shorter holding element, the connection of said feeding means to one of saidelements permitting pivotal movement about the same on release of said other holding element to allow access to the rear end of the motor while the tension on said motor holding elements remain the same.
6. In combination, a drilling motor cemprising a plurality of parts, means for holding said parts together including a side rod having a portion thereof under tension, feeding means for said motor, and connecting means between said motor and feeding means including means for pivotally connecting the latter on said side rod wholly outside of the tensioned limits thereof whereby the feeding means may be. swung to one side to permit access to the rear end of said motor while the tension of said tensioned portion of the rod remains the same.
