` COMBINED CRIB AND SWING. f
. Application filed May This invention relates to a combined crib and swing for children. u n
An important object of the invention. is to provide a device of this character which is capable or' general use and which may be readily converted from one to the other or its uses. y
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be folded into a small compass when not in use so that-it may be conveniently stored. o f
These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention a1id'wherein:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a combined crib and swing constructed in accordance with my invention showingthe parts in the position which they occupy when the device is used as a crib;
Figure 2 is a plan View thereof;
Figure 3 is a side elevation showing the device folded; i l
Figure 4t is a side elevation partially in section showing thedevice in use as a swing;
Figure 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional view therethrough f Figure 6 is a fragmentary side'elevation illustrating the manner of connecting the section of theupper frame;v
Figurev 7y is a 'detail view showingv the manner of connecting the upper ends of the *a are in this position and the deviceis supcrib straps.
Referring now. more particularly tothe drawings, thev device comprises uppery andl V lower trames, generally designated at 10 and 11. Each of these `frames comprises a pair.
yof Ushaped elements, the ends ofthe arms.A
12 of which are pivotally connected to one another, as at'l3, so as to provide an open rectangular lframe, the ends of which *may` be angularly disposed with relation tov one another for a purpose presently to appear.
The upper frame member is provided at its corners with rings 14 adapted to ldetachablyl receive vsnaps of straps 15, by means of which this frame may be suspended; A canvas bag 16 of theproper depth is hcmnied, as at 17, at its ripper edge about the upper frame member and may have in its bottom mattress 18 any suitablev character.V This mattress should be jointed atits center in alignment with the joints of the frames.

frame members for a purpose presently to appear.
The upper and lower frame members are connected bylinks 19 and 20, of which the links 19 are pivoted to the lower-,frame member and the Ilinks 20 to the upper frame member.A Adjacent ends of the links are pivoted to one another, as at 21, the pivot being spaced from the ends of the links 2() which,
' at their ends, are provided with notches 22 receiving headed pins 23 carried by the links 19 when the links are in alignment. The sides of the bottom frameare preferably connected by a transverse brace,fdesig nated at 24. j
Secured to tlie upper frame member at the center thereof and at each side is a rplate 2,5. This plate has at its lower end a cove 26 receiving a headed element 27 carried by the associated link 20 when this link is perpcndicularly related to the sides of the `frame. At one sider of the pivotal connection 13, this plate vhas anarcuate slot 28 through which` extends abolt 29 carried by the adjacent armof the U-shaped member at the corresponding end of the frame.
Upon thisv bolt is mounted a thumb nut 30.7011 similar clampingdevice forfholding thek U-frame in adjusted positions with rela` tion to the plate. When the arms of the Uframes of the upper frame member are in alignment with one another, thisbolt 'is disposed atthe upper end of the slot.
VItwi1l be obvious that when these bolts frame member willfprovide a very rigid structure. Y. With the parts in this position,
vaf-bed is formed.' When it is desired to con? verttlie devicefor use as a swing, 'the straps are disengaged from the rings '14 of the U-A shaped member having the bolts 29 and these bolts are loosened, permitting this U-frame to assume an angle' tol the other of the Since the corresponding .frame member of the bottom frame is supported therefrom, this `member will assume a similar angle. Movement'of the bolts kto the lower ends of the slots terminates the move ment of these frame members and leaves the upper ends of the slots free to receive the snaps 31 of the 'straps 15. With the parts in this position, which is illustrated in Figure 3, one end of the mattress provides -a Ul A seat while the opposite end thereof forms a leg rest.
Since the construction hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certain range of change and modification Without materially departing lfrom 'the spirit of the invention, I do not limit myself to such specific struct-ure except as hereinafter claimed.
l claim l. ln a combined crib and swing, upper and lower rectangular frames `each comprising` a pair of U-shaped sections the ends of the arms of which are pivotally connected to one another, linlr connections between said frames at the ends and center of the sides thereof, a Lflexible bag supported 'from thev upper frame, a connection between the sides of the lower frame extending `beneath the bag,` to support Ithe same, and means connecting the sections of vthe upper frame for maintaining the sections of said upper frame in adjusted kpositions with relation to one another.
2. ln a combined crib and swing, upper and lower reci'langjular frames each com-prisinga pair of itl-shaped sections the ends of the arms of which are pivotally connected to one' another, linlrconneetions between said frames at `the ends and center of toe sides thereof, a fieaible has; supported from the upper frame, a connect-ion betweenthesides of the lower frame extending beneath the bag to supportthe same, and means connecting); the sections of the upper frame for maintaining` the `sections of said upper frame in adjusted positions with relation to 4one another,v the link connections Abetween said frames being,` collapsible to permit movement of the frames y.into superimposed relation.
