This invention relates to certain improvements in liquid dispensing devices which are I designed to deliver a measured quantity of liquid when operated and are primarily designed for use in connection with suitable coin-controlled mechanism.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved form of liquid dispensing mechanism of the character above referred to which will rapidly deliver a predetermined quantity of liquid when operated and which cannot be operated in a manner to deliver more than such quantity.
I accomplish these objects by means of the construction hereinafter described and as illustrated in the accompanyingcdrawings in which Fig. 1 is a view partly in front elevation and partly in vertical central section illustrating" a preferred form of apparatus embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
According to my invention I provide a suitable reservoir 1 which is connected by pipe 2 to a valve casing 3 thru a port 4. A piston valve 5 is slidably fitted to casing 3, and connected by its stem 6 to an arm 7 of a rock shaft 8, the connection between the stem and arm being slotted to permit the necessary side play therebetween when the arm is swung up or down. The lower end of the casing 33 is connected by a pipe 9 to the lower end of a measuring ehan'iber 10, said chamber having a cover 11v for tightly closing the same and said cover having two vent holes 12 and 13 therein. A float lever 14 is mounted on a pivot 15 within chamber 10 and a valve 16 is connected to said lever and arranged to close vent 12 when the li uid in chamber 10 rises to a predetermined evel. A valve 17 is mounted for vertical movement ,on top of cover 11 in a suitable guiding bracket 18 in position to close vent 13 when it is forced downward by a spring 19 on the stem thereof. A lever 20 is connected to the stem of valve 17 in position to lift the latter from its seat when swung upward. A discharge pipe 21 is also connected to the chamber 10 at one end and at the opposite end is connected to a valve casing 22 thru a ort 23. A cylindrical valve 24 is slidably tted to casing 22 and is arranged to close ort 23 and to seat at its lower end on a va ve seat 25 arranged in a discharge pipe 26 with leads from the lower end of casing 22. A stem 27 is provided for the valve 24 and-is connected at its upper end to an arm 28 mounted on rock shaft 8 in oppositely disposed relation to the arm 7, the pin and slot connection between said stem 27 and arm 28 permitting the necessary side play therebetween when the shaft 8 is rocked by its handle 29 or other suitable means. A pin 30 is mounted on stem 27 in position to engage lever 20 and liftthe same to open valve 17 when valve 24 is moved upward.
It will be understood that in practice means will be provided for locking rock shaft 8, so that a single complete oscillation only, thereof, will be permitted on the insertion Of a coin, but that for the purposes of thepresent invention it is not necessary-todetion some means, as spring 31 on stem 6, will also be provided which will normally act to hold the valve 5 open and the valve 24 closed, the normal position of the parts being the opposite position from that shown in Fi 1. w
in operation, therefore, it may be consid ered that in the normal position of the apparatus, the valve 24 will be seated against seat 25', closing port 23 and that va1ve 5 will be raisedto a position inwhich its lower end is at the level of the top edge of port 4.
Under these conditions or. when the parts are moved to this position, liquid in reservoir 1 will flow thru pipe 9 up into chamber 10. When the parts are in this position and the chamber is empty the valve 17 will be closed, and the float on lever 14; will be lowered, holding valve 16 open, so that, as the liquid flows into chamber 10, the air therein will escape thru vent 12 until the chamber has been filled to the desired level and then the float will be lifted sufficiently to close valve16, so that 1 further escape of air from the chamber is prevented and further flow of liquid therein is also prevented except asmay be permitted by the compression of the air therein.
If then the shaft 8 is rocked and the parts moved to the position shown in Fig. 1, during the first portion of the movement the valve 5 will be lowered so as to close the port- 4 before the valve 24 is'raised sufficiently to open port 23. On further movement of the parts, the valve 5 will be merely moved to a lower position and the valve 24 will be raised so as to open port 23 and permit discharge of the liquid in the chamber thru the delivery pipe'26 into a receptacle, as m, which Will be placed in osition to receive the same. Also during the atter portion of this movement the pin will engage lever 20, lifting valve 17 from its seat and permitting air to pass thru vent 13 into the chamber, so that the liquid therein will be quickly discharged. As the float lever moves downward the vent 12 will also be opened permitting the entrance of additional air. As a result the contents of chamber 10 will be quickly delivered.
On the return movement of the parts the valves 24! and 5 will operate in reverse order, port 23 being fully closed before port 4 is opened at all and vent, 13 being also closed,

I claim:
A liquid dispensing apparatus comprising a measuring chamber, an inlet valve and a discharge valve for controlling the supply to, and discharge from said chamber, operating means for said valves arranged, whenvmoved in one direction, successively to close said inlet valve and open said outlet valve, and in the opposite direction to close: said outlet valve and open said inlet valve, float 0per-- said discharge valve is moved to open position.
