Description

UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
vBRUCE C. BORT, OF lCHATEAUGrAY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN MILK-COOLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,618, dated November 30, 1875; application led October` 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRUCE C. BORT, of
' Ohateaugay, in the county of Franklin and State ot' New York, have invented a new and Improved Milk-Cooler, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figurel represents a top view of my improved milk-cooler; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section of the same on the line c c, Fig. l; and Fig. 3, a vertical transverse section on the line x w, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate'correspondin g parts.
Myinvention relates to such improvements in the milk-coolers for which Letters Patent have been granted to B. O. Bort and T. Bryant, under date of June 18, 1872, No. 128,102, and November 5, 1872, No. 132,795, that the milk-pan is detachable from the cooler, enabling both parts to be cleaned with equal facility.
rJhe invention consists of a water cooler or vat which has a hollow longitudinal partition, with entrance and exit apertures, and lateral perforated partitions, in connection with a detachable pan seated thereon.
ln the drawing, A represents the cooler or vat, and B the milk-pan, that corresponds in size and shape with the cooler, so as to fit neatly into the same. The bottom ofthe vat A is provided With a hollow longitudinal partition, O, of rectangular cross-section, to which cold water is supplied by means of a reservoir, D, which is arranged at one end of the vat, and which communicates, by entrance-aperturesa, with the interior of the cooler. The water passes simultaneously through the vat and through the hollow partition C, which forms thereby a perfectly cooled support or seat for the pan seated thereon. An exit aperture and pipe, b, at the opposite end of hollow partition O, conveys the water from the same to the outside, to be conducted oft'. The chambers formed at both sides of the longitudinal partition C are divided by lateral perforated partition-strips E, by which the water is distributed uniformly in the cooler. The partition-strips E are made of the saine height as the central partition G, and provided with horizontally-bent top flanges, if desired, to form additional supports lfor .the milk-pan. The water-passes ot't' at the opposite end of the vat, through exit-apertures e, into a reservoir, D, to be conducted olf through exitpipes f.
The milk-pan is acted pon by tbe cold water at every part of its bottom, so that an effectual cooling of the milk is produced, while the detaching of the milk-pan admits the thorough cleaning ofthe cooler.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The vat A, provided with hollow longitudinal partition C, reservoirs D D', and laterallyperforated strips E, wherebyfthe Water is permitted to ow down uniformly from its head to the foot, spreading evenly over the bottom surface, and passing out without leaving any dead water,77 all substantially as set forth.
