PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE MOOR, OF LA FAYETTE, OREGON.
IMPROVEMENT IN SULKY-PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,487, dated November 30, 1875; application filed June 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE MOOR, of the town of La Fayette, in the county of Yam Hill, State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sulky-Plows, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention in sulky-plows is to raise, lower, and adjust, and, at the same time, hold in a perfectly horizontal or level position, the common land-plow while working, the plow being attached to a two-wheeled vehicle. This is accomplished by the use of a lever, A, rigid upon the axle, and the arms 0,, also rigid upon the axle, and the curved hangers D, in connection with the plow-beams E, having the rods J and K and the pivoted bar F for holding the plow in a level or horizontal position, as shown. in the perspective view, Fig. 1, of the accompanying drawings.
It is evident that if the lever A is moved in a forward direction, being clipped rigid to the axle, it will cause the right-angle arms O, which are also rigid upon the axle, to move in an upward direction, carrying with them the beams E of the plow-frame, which frame is firmly held by the rods J and K at right angles with the curved hangers D, which hangers are held in an ilpright or perpendicular position by the pivoted bar F, thereby holding the plow in a level or horizontal position at any required depth in the earth. The plow-beams E are bolted at their rear ends to the plow standard. From this point they branch outwardly till they meet the hangers D, and thence curve downward to the lower cross-rod K. The vertical part is provided with slotted openings J and L. To tilt the plow laterally the nuts upon the rod J, that passes through the sleeve or spreader I, and upon the rod K are loosened, thus loosening the beams E from the curved hangers D, allowing the plow-frame to be tilted laterally to a level position when the wheels are upon uneven ground by moving upon the rods J and K in the slots J L of the beam E.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a sulky-plow, the branched and curved plow-beam E, having the slots J L, in combination with the rods J and K and the sleeve or spreader I, substantially as shown and described.
2. In combination with the axle and frame, the branched beam E, curved hangers D, pivoted bar F, arms O, and rigid lever A, where-- by the plow is held or raised in a horizontal or level position, substantially as shown and WILLIAM Moon, ISAAC SAMrsoN.
