Application filed December 21, 1927. Serial No. 2 413361. I
the side walls of this end member and pro-,
viding a hollow'center portion in the abut ting surface of the end member to receive the 1 rojecting attaching eye member on the watchcase to which this'end member may be attached by a locking pin to dispose these end inoinbers on a downwardly inclined angle to the plane oi the face of the watch. \Vith these and other ob ects in view, the
- invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be 'more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims' I In the accompanying drawings: r Fig. 1 is a face view of the watch showing my improved watch strap with its end members secured to opposite sides thereof. Fig. 2 is an edge View of thewatch show ing thoattaching eye members on the opposite sides'thereof.
Fig. 3 is a plan View of one of the end members.
Fig. t is a View of the underside of the end members.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the off one brace plate detached from the end member.-
Fig. 6 is a view of the underside oi? the end member showing the brace plate attached thereto. a.
' Fig. 7 is a section on line 7-'7 of Fig. 6 showing the brace plate as secured in the end plate. r A p I Fig. 8 is a sectional view of the end member showing the'same set at an angle and rigidly attached to the watch case.
Fig. 9 is a section on line 99 of Fig. 8
showing the end member as pinned and so rigidly secured to the watch case.
Fig. 10 is a side elevation showing the width of the end member wrist watch strapwith end members secured at a downwardly inclined angle to opposite sides of the watch case. It s iound inpractice of advantage toprovide a watch strap with metal 'end mem hers each of a configuration and finishto harmonize with that of the watch case and so shaped as to presentthe appearance of being a part of the watch case as such a construction imparts to the watch and strap a higher artistic" value than where the end members do not abut or set close against the watch case and which, therefore, cannot pie{ sent the continuity of shape presented by my improvedconstruction. To accomplish this result in a simple and effective way, I have formed one of the extremities oi? each of these end pieces with its walls disposed at an incline to the plane of the end piece and I have provideda central opening in the end of this end piece to receive the eye member be secured to tl'iejwatch case by forcing a lockingpinthrough the walls of the end vpiece and through the eye'onthe'watch case; I
and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention and i showing one means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished:
Nithieierence to the drawings, 10 designates the watch case which may be made in any suitable form and to this watch case I have secured attaching eye memb'ers 11,-the length of which is preferably less than the end members each comprises a body portion g having a top wall 15 and side walls 16, and
in order to providea more extended bearing surface on the extremity of the end member and to also support and reenforce the stock j of the body member, I have provided a brace plate 17 which is formed of stock somewhat heavier than that of the body portion. This brace plate is provided with so as to fitbet-weeii ioo side flanges 18 which fits snugly between the side walls 16 f the body member, and the body of the plate itself is set on an angle to the plane of the body member to better serve as a brace and reenforcement of the stock of the body. v This brace plate is then secured in position by being soldered therein. The side walls 16 of this body member together with these side flanges 18 of the brace plate 17 are pierced as at 19, see Fig. 7, to receive the lock pin 20, see Figs. 8 and 9, the end walls of this end member are I then cut or shaped to set on an incline to the surface of its body portion and by this arrangement or the brace plate with its side flanges a central opening 21 is provided within the outline of these walls and flanges which opening-is designed to receive the eye member on the watch so as to permit this end member to be set with its extremity abutting against the side wall of the watch case and whenpinned into position by the appearance not found in the usual detachable watch book; also this construction eliminates the possibility of accidental detachment from the watch.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated but I desire it .to be understood that I reserve the privelege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims. 1 I claim:
1. A wrist watch strap having metal end members each comprising a body portion with top and side Walls, a brace plate having inturned edge walls fitting between and secured to the side walls of theend member, the end bearing surfaces formed by the combined walls. of said body member and brace plate beingset on an incline to the plane of the body, and said end walls and edges in outline forming av hollow center portion for the reception of the engaging eye on the watch case, and means in said body for securing it rigidly to the watch brace plate being set onan incline to the plane of the body, and said end walls and edgesin outline forming a hollow center portion for the reception of the engaging eye on the watch case, the side walls of said brace plate member being pierced to receive a lock pin to extend through an eye in the watch case to rigidly secure said end members to the case on an incline to theface of the watch.
3. ,A wrist watch strap having an end member comprising a body portion with top and side walls, and a brace plate having inturned edge walls secured to the side walls of the end member and its body between the inturned edge walls disposed at an'angle to "the top wall of the said end member.
A. An end member for wrist watch straps comprising a body portion with top and side walls, the front edges of'which are in clined inwardly from the top wall, and means for reinforcing the open end of the said end .member including a brace plate having inturned edge walls secured to the sides of the said member and its body between the said inturned edgewalls forming a bottom at the front of the said end member. .7
.5. An end member for wrist watch straps comprising a body portion with top and side walls, the front edgeso'f which are inclined inwardly, from the top wall, and means forreinforcing the open end of the said end member including a brace plate having inturned edge walls secured to the sides of the said member and its body between the said inturned edge Walls forming a bottom at the front of the said end meniber, the front. edgesof the said brace plate being inclined to correspond with the front edges of the said end member.
' In testimony whereofI afiix my signature.
