CROSSTIE FOR ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES.
Application. filed October 1, 1927. S erial No; 223,343.
The object of my invention is to make an integral cast metal cross-tie which will have means for supporting the several parts of an electric locomotive or the like and which will properly stiffen the structural frame of the locomotive in addition to providing means for securing the brake-cylinders in position. In the accompanying drawings: Fig. '1 is a side view of my improved crosstie;

The cross-tie 1 is made in the form of an integral casting and is of suflicientdepth to form a rigid connection between the two side members of the locomotive frame which are shown by dotted lines 2, Fig. 2.
3 is a centre bearing plate, and projecting from each side of the structure are brakefulcrums 4 which are made integral with the body of the cross-tie, the hangers also acting as brake-lever guides and made as clearly shown in the drawings.
5 are the brake-lever fulcrum brackets, to which is pivoted one end of the dead lever. 6 are the motor suspension lugs which are provided to support one end of the electric motor,
the opposite end being hung on the axles.
' At each end of the cross-tie are side bearing plates 7 which supportithe sides of the upper structure when the locomotive is traversing a curved track. The cross-tie has side of the centre bearing and close to the point where it is attached to the-side frames, and in each recess of the cross-tie is a longitudinally arranged brake-cylinder 16 shown by dotted lines, Fig. 4. The brake-cylinder haslugs 17 which ar shown by dotted lines and which are attached to pads 18 on the integral casting. At each side of the recess are flanges 19 which are also recessed at 20-forthe extension of the brakecylinder structure. It will be readily noted that the brake-cylinder structure does not rest on the recessed portions but are rigidly supported on .the'pads 18.
By the above invention I am enabled to make a cross-tie in one piece having the brackets and other supports with different parts of an electric locomotive, so that the brake-cylinders can be properly supported on the frame in a horizontal position. I
It will be understood that in some instances the cross-tie may be madewithoutthe motorsuspension lugs, and that the cross-tie can'be used on any type of passenger or freight equipment.
