Description

G. H. S CRIBNER.
- STEAM-COOKER. No.170,4;04. Patented Nov. 23,1875,
N.FETERS. PHOT0-LI1MOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON, D c.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
GEORGE E. SGRIBNEE, OF ESSEX, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO LONDUS F. TEBRILL, OF UNDEBHILL CENTRE, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-COOKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,404, dated November 23,1875 application filed November 4,1875.
ing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a vegetable steam-cooker, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. I
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical-section of my steam-cooker, and Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same.
A represents an ordinary culinary boiler, of any suitable form and size, and provided with a lid, B. This lid may be entirely removable or hinged, as desired, and provided in the center with a hinged valve, a, for the escape of steam when the pressure increases over a certain amount to which said valve is or may be set. Within the boiler A is a false perforated bottom, 0, having a downwardly-extending rim, D, around its edges, and a central ring, D, for supporting the bottom 0 on the bottom of the boiler. Under the center of the false bottom 0 is a tubular support, D,for the same. On the false bottom 0 are placed a series of vessels, E E, having perforated bottoms, as shown. Water is admitted to the boiler through a funnel, G, on the side, connected by a tube or pipe, H, with the boiler below the false bottom 0. This device also acts as a gage or indicator'to show when the water is getting low, as the steam will not pass from it at any time, except when the water gets below the end of the tube H. The water can then be replenished without taking off the lid. The steam passes up through each vessel, through the perforated bottoms, cooking each and every article by itself.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the boiler A, having exterior pipe'H and funnel G, with the perforated false bottom 0, having supports D D, the vessels E, with perforated bottoms, and the lid B, with valve or, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of January, 187 5.
GEORGE H. SGRIBNER.
