The invention relates to automatic grease cups, and has forits object to provide a device of this character comprising a casing having a cap, which cap is provided with a hollow valve stem, the end of which valve stem cooperates with a port and ports of communication between the interior of the valve stem and the chamber of the casing below a springv pressed piston slidably mounted on the valve stem, thereby allowing grease to be forced into the'cup through a valve controlled portend discharged intothe cup below the piston without removing the cup.
A further object is to thread the cover on the valve casing, and to-provide said cover with latching meanscooperating with the casing whereby said cover may be adjusted on the casing for varying the position of the valve in relation to the discharge port of the casing, thereby allowing regulation of discharge of lubricant from the cup.
A further object is to interpose a helical spring between the piston and the cap, the
v convolutions of which will pass into each other, thereby allowing a wide range of movement of the piston and the reception of a maximum amount of lubricant in the cup.

Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the body of the grease cup having a chamber 2 therein. The lower end of the body 1 is provided with a discharge port 3 having a valve seat 4, with which the valve 5 of a hollow valve stem 6 cooperate for regulating the amount of lubricant allowed to pass through the discharge port 3. upper end of the valve stem 6 is threaded at 7 into an enlargement 8 carried by the underside of the cup cap 9, and has its chamber 10 in communication with the intake port 11 extending through the cap 9, whereby lubricant forced into the device by, a grease gun attached at 12 to the fitting 13 will 'be forced past the spring actuated valve 14 through intake port 11, chamber 10, and will be discharged into the lower portion 2? of. the chamber 2 through the discharge ports l5 in the valve stem and below the piston 16, which is slidably mounted on the valve stem 6 in engagement with the inner periphery of the body 1 of the cup. As the lubricant is forced into the portion 2--of the cup chamber, under pressure by a grease gun or pump, the piston 6 is forced upwardly against the action of the helical spring 17, which sprin is interposed between the upper side 0 the piston 16 and the under side of the ca 9, therefore it will be seen that the cup is filled without removing the cover and by the use of a grease gun. It will also be seen when the grease gun is removed from the connection at 12, the spring actuated valve 14 will immediately seat, thereby (preventing escape of lubricant upwardly an the helical spring 17 will exert a downward pressure on the piston 16 and discharge lubricant as consumed to a hearing or otherwise through the discharge port 3 in a quantity according to the position of the valve 5 in relation to the valve seat 4.
The cup cap is threaded at 16 on the upper end of the body 1 and has pivotally mounted at 17 in a recess 18 in one side thereof a lever 19, the nose 20 of which extends through an aperture 21 in the flange 22 of the cap and is received in one of a plurality of recesses 23 in the outer periphery of the body 1, thereby holding the cap 7 in various adjusted positions. Lever 19 is normally held in operative position by means of a coiled spring 24. It will be seen that by rocking the lever 19 and moving its nose 20 out of the recess 23, the cap will be unlocked, and the same can be rotated to various positions for adjusting the valve 5 carried thereby in relation to the valve seat 4 and discharge port 3, therefore the amount of lubricant discharged from the cup may be regulated and after an adjustment upon release of the lever 19 it will-be received in one of the recesses 23 and will positively lock the cover against rotation incident to jar'and the like. The slidable piston 16 comprises spaced discs 24, between which are clamped by-means of the screws 25 flexible washers 26 and 27.
