This l.invention relates to improvements in terminal clips for cable ends.
It is an object of this invention to provide same facility as spade type terminals of usual' construction, nevertheless when once assem- I bled, will grip the cooperating terminal and prevent its accidental separation therefrom, an advantage heretofore confined Vto terminals of(the closed end type. This object I haveaccomplished by the provision of bendable ears projected between the spaced arms of the terminal clip, these ears being straightened in the operation of assembly so as to gripthe terminal and prevent separation of the parts. Preferably, this structure has been combined with a. terminal of the type having a portion of normal diameter ad]acent the head and a portion of enlarged diameter remote from the head, whereby the terminal y and terminal clip when assembled are held not only against sidewise separation but also against endwise separation.

Referring vagain to the terminal clip, it will be observed that the arms 8 are provided with inwardly directed elements or lugs l2, these lugs constituting the means for gripping the terminal hereinbefore referred to. In the completed clip shown in Figure 2 the lugs 12 extend downwardly at an angle to the plane of the clip in order to afford sufficient clearance to permit the passage of the shank 14 of the terminal 10 between them in assembling the connection. When thus assembled, as
shown in Figure 3, the terminal 10 is forced firmly into engagement with support 16, with which it may or may not be in conducting relation. This operation results not only in firmly clamping the terminal clip between the terminal and the support but also effects the straightening of the lugs 12 so that they artially surround and grip the shank 14 o the terminal 10, as shown in Figure 4. The parts are thus securely held against accidental separation.
In order to further insure against separation of the terminal clip and terminal when once assembled, I have made use of a terminal having a portion 18 of Anormal diameter and a portion 20 of enlargeddiameter, thelatter portion being preferably rovided by a rolled thread formed on the sur ace of the bolt. By this means the terminal clip and terminal are held against endwise as well as against sidewise-separation when the terminal is discon- While I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention for purposes of illustration, I desire it to be understood that my invention is not limited to this specic jform, but covers as well all modifications. or

What I claim is:
1.
