GAS-REGULATING vVALVE.

VThe present invention relates to gas pressure regulating valves of the thermostatically controlled type, and aims to provide novel means whereby the gas passing to a burner may be regulated to maintain an even predetermined temperature.
The primary object of the invention is to provide means whereby the initial movementl or normal position of the valve may be regulated at the will of the operator.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the regulation of the valve may be accomplished by means of a regulating wheel disposed exteriorly of the valve housing.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a valve constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the valve.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken at right angles to Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the housing of the valve is indicated generally by the reference character 5 and is provided with an inlet opening 6 and an outlet opening 7 so that gas may pass through the valve housing to a suitable burner not shown.
Within the valve housing is a valve seat 8 with whichV the valve 9 operates in controlling the passage of gas through the housinv.
l' Jlhe valve 9 is removably supported at one end of the arm 10 which is pivotally supported within the valve housing as at 11, the arm 10 being provided with a head 12 positioned in the groove 13 formed in the adjusting member 14 that operates transversely of the valve housing.
The valve housing is provided with a lateral opening into which the threaded extremity 15 of the nipple 16 formed at one end of the copper tube 17, is positioned, thereby to support the tube 17 on the valve housing. Positioned within the copper tube 17 is a rod 18 tube 17 will be moved with the tube 17, for
purposes to be hereinafter more fully described.
As clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawing, the rod 18 is formed with a threaded extremity 20 that is fitted in a threaded bore of the adjusting member 14, to the end that the adjusting member 14 may be rotated to move it longitudinally of the rod 18 to accomplish the adjustment of the valve arm 10 and valve 9 supported thereby.
This adjustment is accomplished by rotating the adjusting member 14 by means of the adjusting wheel 21 which is secured to the extension 22 of the adjusting member 14, which extension 22 extends through the bearing-23 supported in an opening formed in the side wall of the valve housing.
The wheel 21 is formed with numbers 24 as shown by Figure 1 of the drawing, which numbers indicate movements of the adjusting member, and should it be desired to adjust the wheel 21 with respect to the adjustin member, the screw 25 may be loosened an the wheel turned to the desired position, on the extension 22, whereupon the screw 25 may be again tightened to connect the wheel 21 and the adjustingmember.
From the foregoing it will be seen that as the tube 17 expands, under the heat of the oven or heating chamber in which the tube is positioned, the rod 18 will be moved corre* spondingly rocking the arm 10 and moving the valve 9 to cut off orreduce the flow of gas to tlhe burner allowing the oven to slightly coo As the oven cools and the tube 17 contracts, the rod 18 is moved with the tube causing the valve to open increasing the flow of gas to the burner. It will further be seen that due to the construction shown, the adjusting member may be operated or adjusted with respect to the rod 18 to regulate the action of the arm 10 and valve carried thereby.
