STEEL-WOOL HOLDER.

My invention relates to steel wool holders.
It is the object of my invention to provide a very cheap steel wool holder for holding steel wool pads in such a manner that the pad may be quickly applied and will stay in its applied position.
It is my object to provide such a holder that the greater the pressure upon the pad the more securely will the pad be held on the holder. .It is a further object to provide a holder to prevent the pad from shifting laterally and which will permit the application of the pad on its edge to the surface to which the pad is being applied, so as to secure the abrading efi'ect of the corner of the pad.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the handle 'of the holder.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the detachable head of the holder.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the head of the holder.
Figure 4c is a side elevation of the completed assembled holder.
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the completed assembled holder with the steel wool pad in position.
Figure 6 is a perspective of the steel wool pad.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 corn stitutes a handle having an enlarged head portion 2, from which projects along the axis ofthe handle a mounting pin 3, on which is mounted the pad holder head.
This pad holder head is provided with a retaining flange 4 and a pad-support 5, which has a side wall that tapers inwardly and upwardly, as at 6, to a point where it meets the collar 4. An aperture 7 is provided through the pad holder for mounting it upon the mounting pin 3.
The pad 8 has its side walls 9 slipped over the inwardly tapering side wall 6 of the holder until the edges 10 of the pad engage with the under side of the collard. The bottom 11 of the holder engages with the bottom 12 of the pad.
The pad is wound tightly of a series of strands so that it is resilient .and will resist expansion. It will therefore tend to cling to the tapered surface 6 and the greater the 1927. Serial No. 207,388.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination, a cup-shaped pad formed of a plurality of strands of steel wool wound concentrically to form a resilient side wall of the pad, and a holder having a relatively broad base and. relatively narrow top adapted to be mounted within the interior of said resilient pad, which will resiliently adhere thereto.
2. In combination, a cup-shaped pad formed of a plurality of strands of steel wool wound concentrically to form a resilient side wall of the pad, a holder having a relatively broad base and relatively narrow top adapted to be mounted within the interior of said resilient pad, which will resiliently adhere thereto, and a cover plate on said holder adapted'to engage the top of the side wall of said pad and hold the steel wool side walls of said pad between the tapered surface of the holder and the bottom of the cover plate.
3.
