This invention refersmbroadly to the art of drying smokers supplies witha View of thereby increasing the palatability, taste and combustibility o't' tobacco-products, and the invention among other possibilities of application is particularly applied to the drying of the tobacco, cigars, cigarettes, pipes and the like before their consumption or utilization. In all the embodiments in accordance with my invention I make use of the combination of a heating source,

The invention will be more fully described by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figs. 1 to 4 show difierent modifications of means embodying heated as is ,shown at 4; and at the other the principles of my invention inelevation Band perspective view respectively.

In the form or construction according'to Fi ure .1, the .tank or reservoir-of itheroaste .ing lamp 1,-a small spirit-lamp for instance, is provided witha supporting member 2 which .may be detachably arranged, and Which .is bent or shaped in such a manner, as to present an arcuate or vaulted or trough-shaped :rest' 3 ztorithe cigar 4 or the like. In the modification shown in Figure 4 of the drawing a spring operated clockwork or motor is provided for reciprocating rotating of the holder 16 for the cigar 4 within operative reach of the lamp-flame.

A member 22 fixed to the motor has a downwardly extending end engaging in the right and left hand threads on the spindle 13 k WVhen the holder for the cigar is rotated by the motor, the engagement of the member 22 in the threads gives to the holder a back-and-iourth movement towards and from the flame 1 The clockwork is preferably so arranged that, after having been wound up, it may be started and ar rested at any time in the discretion of the operator. For the purpose of adjustment, particularly for cigars or the like of different lengths, the clockwork 19, 20 and respectively the lamp 1 or both of these members may be displaceably mounted upon the common base plate 18.

As heating sources'ior the heating of the cigar, cigarette or the like in accordance with the invention I may also employ electric heating devices. Instead of the driving by clockwork 19, 2O electromotive driving means may'be used which may be driven for instance by a dry-battery or the like.

The implements according to this invention are also very well suited for use as advertising means, thus for instance for cigarand cigarettes-manufacturers, the advertising matter being applied to any suitable parts of the implement, as for instance on the lamp or the carrying support by means of a plate-shaped enlargement of a portion of the holder 2 in Figure 1.

It should be understood that the invention is not restricted to the particular forms of embodiment herein shown by way of exemplilicat'ion only, but other modifications and changes of construction are possible within the spirit and scope of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.

I claim 2- 1. In a device of the kind described, a heating source, supporting means on said source, and longitudinally adjustable and extensible sections on said supporting means, and carrying and turning means on said sec- 'tions.

2. In a device of the kind described in combination, a heating source, holding means laterally disposed on said heating source, and comprising a plurality oi rela-- tively displaceablesections and adapted to move the article to be treated into the operative position.

3. In a device for drying cigars, cigarettes and the like, in combination, .a heating source, laterally and upwardly extending holdin means for cigars and the like connected to said heating source, and means to adjust the holding means and the heating source with relation to each other to adapt the device to varying lengths of cigars and to position the cigar at varying distances from the heating source, said holding means in eluding means to reciprocate the cigar or the like to and from the flame.

4. In a device for drying cigars, cigarettes and the like, in combination, a heating source, laterally and upwardly extending holding means for cigars and the like connected tosaid heating source, and means to adjust the holding means and the heating source, laterally and upwardly extending.
