EDUARD DRESSLER, OF GABLONZ, BOHEMIA, AUSTRIA, ASSIGNOR TO ALFRED J. OSTHEIMER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-WEIGHTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,243, dated November 23, 1875; application filed September 17,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDUARD DRESSLER, of Gablonz, Bohemia, Austria, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper- Weights, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved paper-weight, taken through the line w 00, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line y :2 Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of paper-weights made of glass, in such way as to cause pictures attached to their bottoms to appear in relief, making them highly ornamental.
The invention consists in a paper-weight formed of a glass block having a rounded concavity in its lower side, a picture attached to said lower side, and a bordering attached to the outer part ofthe surface of said concavity, as hereinafter fully described.
A is a glass bleck, which I prefer to make rectangular in form, but which may be made of any desired shape. In the bottom of the block A is formed a rounded concavity, a.
- To the bottom of the blockAis attached apicture, B, which may be a representation of a building, a person, a landscape, or any other desired object. The picture maybe secured to the block- A by cement, or any other suitable means.
The effect of the concavity a is to refr'act the rays of light, and thus cause the picture to appear in relief. Upon the surface of the concavity a, along its edge, may be cemented a bordering of foliage or other objects appropriate to the character of the picture B, which foliage will appear as if standing around the foreground of the picture. The edge of the concavity a may also have a narrow gilt border, D, applied to it, if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 'as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A paper-weight formed of a glass block, A, having a rounded concavity, a, in its lower side, a picture, B, attached to said lower side, and a bordering, 0, attached to the outer part ofthe surface of said concavity, substantially as herein shown and described.
