Description

" Feb. 19, 1929.
- or the toe irons.
' Patented Feb. 19, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
BROB WITH, OF SKOIEN, NEAR OSLO, NORWAY.
SKI TIE.
Application filed February 7, 1928, Serial No. 252,567, and in Norway February 11, 1927.
The present invention relates to ski ties of the sole or" the shoe andthus retain the shoe in position by pressing the same against the ski proper or against the horizontal portions Preferably the said horizontal portions of the toe irons are provided with upwardly extending pegs which penetrate somewhat into the shoe sole from the underside thereof and ensures that the shoe shall. not slip. The clamping members hither to known consist of rigid levers which always occupy the same relative position to the edge portion of the shoe sole, whereby the said sole will after some time become so worn or depressed that it permits the shoe to move' somewhat in the longitudinal direction of the ski, which again causes that the pegs which penetrate into the sole will enlarge the holes therein, and rigid connection between the sole and the ski tie'is no longer obtainable.
with a pressure suiiicient to prevent the shoe from sliding in the tie.
The invention is illustrated by way of ex ample in the annexed drawing Fig. l. is a longitudinal vertical section through the ski tie and a portion of theski and Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof. I To the sin 1 are by means of screws secured toe irons 2, 3 the horizontal portionsQ of wliichai'e provided with pegs 5. I
A somewhat V-shaped bail 6 has its free ends 7 bent outwardly and is by means of said ends journalled in apertures provided in the vertical portions 3 of the toe irons. The bail 6 is formed of a metal rod or wire of suitable thickness to have the desired yielding property, and the front end or the bail 6 may be pressed down by means of a suitable arrangement, here illustrated-as a strap 8 which is passed around the bail and is secured to a clamp 9 fixed on the The portions 10 ot the legs of the bail in trontot the end portions 7 are curved somewhat downwardly, so that whenthebail is pressed down by means or the strap 8 said portions 10 will. press yieldingly against the edge portions of the shoe sole. In order to obtain a better grip betweenthe bail and the shoe sole the portions 10 of the bail may be provided with a coating of rubber or the like as indicated at 11 in Fig. 1. p
The portions of the vertical members 3 of the toe irons are above the holes therein bent outwardly so that channels or grooves 12 are formed. When the bail isswung up to inoperative position the legs of the bail pass into said grooves 12, so that the shoe is fully tree to pass in between the toe irons and down on the pegs 5.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed,
I declare that what I claim is:
1. A ski tie con'iprising toe irons having substantially vertical side portions, a resilient clamping bail pivoted to said vertical inoperative position.
