LOUIS A. MACKLANBUBG, OF OKLAiiOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA.-
OOUNTEB DISPLAY CASE.
Application filed April 4, 1928. Serial 1T0. 267,832.
This invention relates to improvements in display cases particularly adapted as counter display cases for the purpose of properly and conveniently exhibiting and selling weather strips.
A further object of this invention is to provide a display case having a compartment therein torrecelving a reserve stock or sup ply of weather strips, demonstrating mode s,
descriptive literature, and other accessories required in the display and sale of articles of the type under consideration. 1
Another object of this invention is to provide a display case particularly adapted for the exhibition of diflerent lengths and types of weather strips, being provided with a plurality of display surfaces, each surface being adapted for the display of one type of strip.
A further object of this invention is to 2 provide a display case in which various lengths of weather strips may be convenient- 1y exhibited and easily removed from the case without bending or otherwise damaging the strips. i
Other objects of this invention will appear from thelfollowing detailed description of the device as disclosed in the single sheet of drawing, which is herewith made a part of this invention.
In the drawings- Fig. 1 illustrates a perspective view of the display case.
Fig. 2 represents a sectional elevational view of the display case. A 35 Fig. 3 illustrates a sectional View of Fig. 2
taken along line 33;
Fig. 4 illustrates a perspective view. of the cap retaining portion for a the display case.
Fig. 5 represents a sectional view of a lower portion of one of the side walls to an enlarged scale and disclosing means for holding the walls in position on the base member, and means for supporting the weather strips in position.
In order to provide a display case particularly adaptedior the exhibition of weather strips or any other suitable article, it is pre ferred inthis invention that numeral 1 designate the base portion of the counter display case made of any suitable material such as wood, and adapted to have mounted thereon a plurality of wall or side portions 2, 3, 4, and 5, one of the side portions, for instance, at may be providcdwith hinges 6, and ahandle 7 for forming a door which may be readily opened or closed, as desired, for the purpose of having access to the inner portion 8 of the display case, which is provided with shelves 9 and 10, for the purpose of receiving and supporting a reserve supply of strips and a supply of demonstrating models of weather strips 11, also descriptive literature, nails, screws, and other accessories usually required in the sale over the counter of 5 weather strips and like articles. t i
The wall or side portions 2, 3, and 5 are adapted to be firmly held in position in the base 1 of the case within the groove portions 12 therein, or by any other suitable means, and the door/i is adapted to have its lower edge swing free on the base, a suitable door jamb being firmly attached to the base 1 as a means for supporting the lower ends of the weather strips or other display articles. 7
Base'members 14 are, firmly attached to the bottom edge of the side walls and door. Corner posts or strips, 15, 16, 17, and 18, are provided to firmly hold the side walls and door in position, thereby forming in combinationwith a top portion 19, a display case and container. i
The weather strips are made of various types and lengths andthe displa case according to this invention is provi ed with a cap retaining portion, which may be constructed of four wooden fiber or metal portions, having an upper section 20 made of any suitable material such as sheet metal or wood'fiber, and havingits edges 21 formed with downwardly extending flanges for the purpose of receiving in attached relationship thereto side portions 22, 2B, 24, 25 and 26. sectionof a side in alignment with the wall portions 25 and 26 is adapted to be securely attached to the upper portion of the door member 4, as at 27. and secured to the door in such a. manner that the lower edge of the plate 27 will be in alignment with the lower edges of the side portions 25 and 26, as clearly disclosed in Figures 1 and 4. a i
The shelf member may be adapted for supporting small wooden models of windows 34 and doors 35 for demonstration purposes,
while the lower portion of the case may be utilized for storing of material 36, and the like.
Fig. 5 discloses a preferred means for holding a side wall portion such as -l in operative relationship with base member 1 of the ease, comprising a suitably formed strip 37 fastened to the base member 1 by means of screws 38, or otherwise. The base member 1 1 is securely fastened to the bottom of the edge of the side wall at, and is adapted to support the lower ends of the weather strip sections 11 on the outside of the wall surfaces.
In order to provide means for keeping the lower ends of the strips 11 from sliding off the members 14, it is preferred in this invention to fasten along the upper outer edge of the members 14 a stop element 39, made of suitable material such as wood, or otherwise, to the member 14, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 5. A member I0 is securely fastened to the base 1 insuch a manner that the wall portion 4 and its attached member 14.- may be securely held in position between the strips 37 and 40.
The display case according to this invention may be conveniently used for a number of purposes, the models such as small wooden windows and doors may be retained for demonstration purposes inside the case, while the weather strips may be all normally located around the outside panels or surface of the display case, in such a manner that the store clerks or other parties may easily sell therefrom.
Extra weather strips may be stored within the case in order that there may be a sufficient quantity of each length necessary of the different styles. The upper ends of the strips are held in place by the side walls or placards of the cap portion.
The sides of the cap portion may be utilized for any purpose such as a sign for designating the type of article on display. The lower edges, 28, 29, 30 and 31, of the downwardly extending side walls of the cap portion are formed in such a manner that the short and long strips may be displayed on each side of the display case. The extreme lower corners of the side portions are adapted to hold the shorter strips within the case and the upper portions the longer strips, at the same time enabling the convenient removal of the weather strips when desired without flexing or bending the strips to any appreciable extent.
Obviously, if the bottom edges of the side portions of the cap retainer were parallel to the base portion of the display case, then it would be impossible to remove the strips without bending them considerably, it being understood that the upper ends of the strips are adapted to extend a short distance beyond the bottom ed 'es of the side walls of the cap.
The weather strips are displayed on the outer surface of the door member 4t in the same manner as disclosed for the other sides of the display case, with the exception that the plate 27 is securely fastened to and spaced from the outer surface of the door in some suitable manner, so as to allow the upper free ends of the weather strips to be properly retained in position.
In order to hold the weather strips in proper alignment for display, dividing or partition members 32 are securely fastened to the wall portions of the display case in such a manner that the weather strip portions 33 may be loosely held in position in such a manner that they can be easily removed from the display case when desired. The dividing members 32 may be located wherever found desirable on the surface of the walls.
The display case above described may be used for any suitable purpose, but particu larly for the exhibition and display of weather strips of different lengths and types. The case may have any number of sides without affecting the merits of this invention, but four sides formed in a square have been found to be convenient. The sides of the cap portion may be utilized as placards calling attention to any desirable matter pertaining to the display and sale of the weather strips or other class of merchandise.
It is understood that changes and alterations may be made in the above disclosure both in the drawings and specifications within the scope of the appended claims without affecting the merits of this invention.
What I claim is:
1. In a display case for strips of material of various lengths, having a plurality of side walls, retaining members extending downwardly from the top of the case for holding the upper ends of the strips in detachable re lationship to the walls, the lower edges of the retaining members being formed at an acute angle to the side edges of the case, thereby allowing the short strips to be properly held in position for display at the lower end of the lower edge of the retaining member, and the longer strips at the upper end of the lower edge of the retaining member.
2. In a display case for strips of material of various lengths, having a plurality of side walls, one of the side walls being hinged for use as a door for the purpose of gaining ac cess to the interior of the display case, accommodations within the display case for receiving a supply of strips, retaining members extending downwardly from the top of the case for holding the upper ends of the strips adjacent the walls, and spacing members suitably attached to the outer surface of the walls for aiding in holding the strips of material in proper alignment for display.
3. In a display case for strips of material of various lengths, having a plurality of side retaining members being formed at an acute or obtuse angle to the side edges of the walls, 10
a groove in the lower fiortions of the side walls for maintaining t e lower ends of the strips in position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
