Description

Patented Feb. 12, 1929 UNITED STATES NELLE MCGHEE CROUCH,
DYE
No Drawing. Application filed February This invention relates to the process for setting the colors in dyed material such as cloth, garments and the like.
7 I am aware that sugar of lead or lead acetate has been used in setting colors during the dyeing process set forth in Patent 355,935, Thomas Halliday, 1887; I am also aware that Epson salts or magnesium chloride has been used to prepare cloth before dyeing as shown in Patent 8O3,647, W illiam W'arr, 1905. In neither of these cases has there been any idea of setting colors in cloth or the like after the dyeing has been accomplished, and while I use both magnesium chloride and lead acetate the object of the invention is to provide a new dye setting process and combination wherein a novel combination may be used to ensure thorough setting of the colors therein.
The combination I use not only includes the two chemicals above mentioned but also includes aluminum acetate which I have found to have a very superior effect especially in this combination. I take for each gallon of water one-third of an ounce of magnesium chloride, one-third of an ounce of aluminum acetate and one-third of an ounce of lead acetate. This amount is sufficient for two pounds of ordinary textile material and for each additional amount of textile material it is obvious that the pro- PATENT OFFICE.

portions should be correspondingly increased. The material is first wet in cold water and then placed in the solution, made as above, while stirring, and is let stand for twelve hours. The material is then removed, rinsed in cold water and washed with a mild soap. Preferably the treated material should be dried in the shade. In the case of garments they may be turned wrong side out and dried in the ordinary manner on a line. It is obvious that piece material can be dried on the line inlike manner by so folding that the right side is not exposed to the suns rays.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. As a dye setting composition, an aqueous solution containing aluminum acetate, magnesium chloride and lead acetate.
2. As a dye setting composition, an aqueous solution containing aluminum acetate, magnesium chloride and lead acetate in equal parts.
3. As a dye setting composition, an aqueous solution containing aluminum acetate, magnesium chloride and lead acetate in equal parts and one-third ounce of each said ingredients to each gallon of water.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
NELLE McGHEE ononon.
