SCHOOL-SLATE.
Speccaton of Letters Patent No. 17,019, dated April 14, 1857.
To all a0/wm t may concern.
Be it known that I, SAMUEL R. BURRELL, of the city and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in the Slate for the Use of Schools, Snc.; and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full and eX- act description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
AA is the frame of the ordinary school slate; B, the slate itself; C, a metallic tile let in to the said frame flush with its surface and kept fixed in its place by fitting tight and the addition of glue, or any other kind of adhesive cement if deemed necessary, by means of which an instrument is conveniently at hand, to sharpen and keep the point on the pencil for use. DD is a file of a similar character attached to the frame by a pivot D, so as to slide into a slot and be flush with the frame, at the same time covering the cavity E in the said frame for the reception and retention of the pencil H.
What I claim as my invention or improvement is- The application of a permanent, or fixed file, and also a movable file to 'the ordinary slate frame of commerce in form and manner as herein before set forth and described in the specification and drawings.
