Description

w. KINGHAM] VENTILATING CHURCHES, HOUSES, &C. No.17 0,174. PatenteNov. z
Invenfir UNITED STATES ATEN'T OFFICE.
WILLIAM KINGHAM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN VENTILATING CHURCHES, HOUSES &c.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 170,174, dated November 23,1875; application filed June 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. WILLIAM KINGHAM, of New York, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ventilating Churches, Houses, Theaters, Oars, Steamboats, 850., which improvement is fully set forth-in the following specification, reference being bad to accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to give egress to the poisonous gas and impure air ejected from the register or stove, which is so injurious t0 the lungs when collectedin a room hav ing no ventilation, and to give a current of pure air into a room, no draft being felt by the occupants of'the room.
A A are two flaps outside of the Window, equally balanced andkept in place by an elastic band. Any force of wind outside will close the openings, while the egressof heated air from inside will open them when the force of wind outside is not too strong. P is a small peg placed in the sash, so that burglars or any one outside may not open the windows wider than fixed to ventilate the room. The flower-pot or aquarium, being made to fit close to the window inside, prevents any draft as the air ascends, giving health to the flowers and circulating the odors from them, lifting the impure air and forcing it out at the top of Window. A slip of netting placed over the openings will prevent flies, &o., from getting in the room.
The sash can be raised or loweredat pleasure, as no cutting or altering the glass or sash is required, and can be made of glass, metal, pottery, or wood.
For cars or boats place the opening flaps a little below the seat and over the entrance at each end at top, also at the sides. The front andside on which the draft is will'close. The other side and end will open to give egress to the heated impure air fast as engendered. Having a border half -Way down under the seat to the floor will prevent any unpleasant draft to the feet.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the deflecting-plate arranged on the inside of the sash, of the equall -balanced flaps arranged on the outside of the sash at the top of the casing, all substantially as shown and described.
WILLIAM KINGHAM.
