IMPROVEMENT IN FUR NlTU RE-CASTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,156, dated November 23, 1875; application filed April 28, 1875. v
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, L. FREDERIO CERF, a citizen of France, at present residing in New York, N. Y., have invented certain new and useful Improvements in' Casters; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a front elevation; Fig. 2, a vertical section through one form of the device 5 Fig. 3, a vertical section through another thereof; and Figs. 4:, 5, 6, and 7 are detached parts and sections of the two forms of my improved caster.
The object of thisinvention is to strengthen the caster; and it consists of an enlarged conical bearing made around the foot of the pivot or spindle for thesocket, having a conical recess to ride on, in addition to the bearing around the upper end of the spindle, all as hereinafter more fully described.
In Fig. 2 of the drawing the enlarged conical bearing is shown by a, made on the lower part of the spindle, and fitted in conical recess a of the socket, the base or shoulder resting upon the cross-head b of the caster-fgarne, in which the pivot or spindle is riveted? In Fig. 3 of the drawing, the enlarg'dbear ing to is made upon the cross-head, the spindle passing through it and riveting in the crosshead the same as before, the full size of the pivot or spindle being retained, however, down to the bottom of the bearing to retain its strength, the extreme end only of the spindle being-reduced a distance equal to or less than the thickness of the cross-head.
Fig. 4 shows the pivot or spindle used in Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 shows the pivot or spindle of Fig. 3;and Figs. 6 and 7 sections of the cross-heads of Figs. 2 and 3, respectively.
By this improvement the pivot or spindle is rendered less liable to break, while at the same time the cross-head of the caster-frame
