f My invention relates to improvements in .packages which may be quickly opened and their contentsmade accessible by pulling on a'string.

The principal object of my invention is to provide a package for holding cigarettes of 'such character that the package may be flexibly opened centrally by a string.

Another object of my invention is to proln vide means for'exibly closing the package automatically whereby the contained oigarettes are not only held in position in the package but are also prevented from being crushed. Referring to the drawings in which like numbers indicate the same ,partsz- Fig. 1 is a View showing my improved ciga- .rette package.

' In the manufacture of my package, a sheet of stiff paper, or cardboard, 3 is cut to size and creased at 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 in order .to fold to the required positionjndicated in Fig. 2, it being noted that the upper and lower ends of 3 are open.

A string, preferably a strong small diameter string such as 2 which may be rendered .sharp by treatment with sizing, is attached to the bottom of 3 by passing t rough a hole therein and knotting the end, or same may be attached to 3 in any other suitable manner.

Upon the release of ressure applied to 4 and 8, the flexibility ofP 3, owing to its stiffness or rigidity, causes the package to close, thereby preserving the cigarettes from loss or being crushed. y i

In the ordinary paperpackages used for containing cigarettes, the cigarettes rapidly become crushed and disintegrated by carrying the same in a pocket, but by my invention I am now enabled to prevent all this loss and inconvenience while supplying at the same time all the necessary parts for a commercial package.

It is an essential feature of my invention to provide a comparatively stiff container for cigarettes which may be easily spilt substantially centrally for abstracting the cigarettes, but which will always resume its shape While carrying protection :for the cigarettes, the Astiffness of the container being of a springlike nature for which many alternatives suggest themselves.

It should. be noted that the tinfoil 12 is so\ folded around the cigarettes 9 that the endsmo of 12 will just about meet and consequently when lis split by pulling on string 2 it is oil 12for abstacting cigarettes 9 therefrom because 12 will open in a manner corresponding to the opening of 10 as already described.
