surron'r iron moivs.
Application filed August 17, 1928.. Serial No. 300,220.
This invention relates to improvements in supports for irons, and finds valuable application to curling irons.
A main object of the invention is to prov de a support, suitably attached to some portion of a curling or analogous device, and adapted in one position to cooperate to form a base which secures the heated part in raised position to prevent burning of a support upon which the device is resting. Other obJects are to provide a supporting element which canbe cheaply manufactured; which can be easily attached to any type of device; which will conform to the configuration of the handle of the device; which is releasably cooperable with the handle; which snugly embraces the handle when releasably secured; and which can be formed from wire. 1
Features also include the details of construction.
Features and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the description of the drawings forming a part of this application and in said drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the device in iron-supporting position;
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the device embracing the handle;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan View partly 1n section showing the manner of swlngingly connecting the support; and
Figure 4 is an end view illustrating the manner of releasably securing the supporting element.
The device has been shown applied to a curling iron, but it will be understood that it may be applied to any device of similar character wherein it is desired to support a hot iron, or portion to be heated, in raised position to prevent injury to the support upon which the device rests. The iron per se forms no art of the invention, only the combination eing claimed with the supporting device.
Numeral 1 designates the handle, which in this instance is hollow and is provided with an electrical heating device not shown. The iron is indicated at 2. Cooperative with element 2 is the usual pressure element 3 pivoted as at 4 and having a button 6 by which it is depressed against the action of the spring 5.
In the present instance the supporting device is swingingly attached to the handle. However this is by no means necessary, although convenient. For this purpose the handle is bored as at 7, the bores being ar ranged on opposite sides, with their axes diametrically related. Thctsupporting element hassubstantially a U-shaped form and comprises the sides 9 and cross element 10. The terminals of the sides 9 are inturned as at 8 to engage the sockets or bores 7, and thus the element is swingingly but detachably secured. The element it will be seen is formed of wire and sufficient resiliency is provided between the cross piece 11' and the bent-in portions 8 to permit the wire to be sprung for eooperatlvely engaging elements 8 and sockets 7. In this instance the cross element 11 forms an arched stop which engages the iron as shown in Figure 1. The arms 9 are diametrically related and the cross piece 11 is arcuate, and the support as a whole generally conforms to the configuration of the handle when releasably secured thereto as shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4. In order that the support may be releasably secured to the handle 1, the end of the frame is bent as shown at 15 to form a kind of hook and is additionally bent intermediately and inwardly as shown at 18 sufliciently to be sprung past the point 19 of the end of the handle. In this way the supporting element, when not in use, fits snugly against the handle so that the handle can be convemently rasped without interference by the supporting element.
A very efficient device is thus provided which includes a handle and the part to be heated along with an element swingably attached and adapted at one position to embrace the handle and in another position to engage the iron as a stop, so that portions of the handle and swingable element cooperate to form a base which secures the iron in raised position.
The device is simple, can be very cheaply manufactured and quickly attached.
I claim as my invention:
1. A device of the class described including a handle and a part to be heated, an element attached to said device and. adapted in one position to engage the same as a stop, so that portions of the handle and said element c0- operate to form a base which secures the part to be heated in raised position. I
2. A device of the class described including a handle and a part to be heated, an element swingably attached and adapted in one position to be substantially parallel with the handle and in another to engage the part to be heated as a stop and so that portions of the handle and swingably connected element cooperate to form a base which secures the part to be heated in raised position.
3. A device of the class described including a handle and a part to be heated, an element attached and adapted in one position to embrace the handle and in another to engage the part to be heated as a stop, and so that portions of the handle and connected element cooperate to form a base which secures the part to be heated in raised position.
4. A device of the class described including an iron and handle therefor, an element swingably attached to swing on an axis substantially perpendicular to their long axes, and adapted in one position to snugly embrace the handle and conform to the configuration thereof and in another position to engage the iron in angular relation thereto and, to the handle as a stop, and so that portionsof the handle and swingable element cooperate to form a base which secures the iron in raised position.
5. A device of,the class described including an iron and handle therefor, an element attached and adapted in one position to engage the iron as a stop and so that portions of the iron and swinging element cooperate to form a base which secures the iron in raised pogaging position, said eleinent snugly embraeing and conforming to the configuration of the handle when releasably secured thereto.
6. A device of'the class described including an iron and handle therefor, an element swingingly attached and adapted in one posltion to engage the iron as a stop, and so that portions of the iron and swinging eleinent cooperate to form a-base which secures the iron in raised position, said swingable element having a substantially U-shaped form and having inturned portions as pivots swingingly connecting it, and having a portion cooperative with the handle to releasably secure said swingable element in handle-engaging position, that portion of the element which engages the iron as a stop conforming to the contour of the handle when said element is releasably secured to the handle, said element conforming to the configuration of the handle when releasably secured thereto. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of August, 1928.
