IMPROVEMENT IN OINTMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,949, dated November 16, 1875; application filed September 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JEROME B. BROWN and SARAH W. BROWN, of Willoughby, in
the county of Lake and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Medical Gompound; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The invention relates to the treatment of women during pregnancy; and consists of the compound hereinafter specified. I
In carrying out our invention, we make a compound of two pounds of glycerine, four ounces of the green bark of the roots or pulp of the berries of nightshade, (Solcmum duloamam,) two ounces of the flowers of arnica,
night before going to bed, for the space of about twelve weeks before confinement.
The object and intended effect of this treatment is to soften the dry and feverish parts, and to alleviate the bearing-down sensation, so commonly experienced by pregnant women; also, to prevent false labor-pains, and to reduce the severity of true labor-pains, all of which we consider to be accomplished in a better manner by our invention, as herein described, than by any other means or appliances of which we are aware.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A compound of glycerine, arnica, woody nightshade, and nutmeg, in about the propertions and for the purpose specified.
