This invention relates to new and usefulv improvements in writing pens, and aims to provide a highly novel, simple pocket attach` ing clip therefor.

The invention further aims to provide means whereby the pen may be positively secured to ones pocket, so that there will be no liability the pen becoming detached and falling from the pocket which is the most pertinent disadvantage in fountain pens now in use.

One of the elements of the fastening means is readily detachable from the pen and of such a construction to provide means for mixing the inlr within a mixing mortar carried by the pen and also to provide means for actuating a cut-olf valve within the inl: passage between the ink chamber and the pen point, so that the pen may be shaken during the mixing opw eration without any liability of the ink pouring from the pen.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, I have illustrated my invention adapted for use upon a fountain pen of conventional construction and comprising` a barrel 5 and removable cap 2l, which may be formed in detachable section whereby to provide separate compartments in the cap, the outer of such sections being indicated at 23.

Arranged through the cap section 23,Y is a. transversely extending hollow pin 35 that is headed at one end as at 36. The ends of this pin extend through the section 23, while said pin is formed internally with screw threads for receiving an elongated threaded pin 37 that is headed at its outer end. Loosely pivotally arranged upon the outer ends ot the holiow lpin 35, are the upper curved tingers 38-l8 of a relatively 'tshaped hanger 39. the lower lingers 40 40 of said hanger extending in a substantially parallel plane to the longitudinal anis of the pen and being in spaced parallel relation with each other. r.The lower ends of these fingers 40-40 are provided with registering openings for receiving a readily removable pivot pin 4l. As clearly disclosed in Figs. l and 6, the fingers SSL-38 of `the hanger 39 that are pivoted to the pen cap, are of such a curvature as t'o substantially conform to the curvature ofy said cap but at the same time to allow of the ready pivotal Aact-ion of the hanger upon said cap.

'The lower end of this tongue 42 is or rounded contour, and erries one element of a conventional separable fastener which element is designated by the reference character 44.

Arranged within a channel in the chamber cap 2l, directly in back of this member of the separable fastener, carried by said tongue, is a ring 45 that carries a forwardly projecting complementary member of said separable fastener designated by the reference character 46.

In order that this character of fastening means may be employed, it is necessary that the front facing of a garment pocket for receiving the pen, be provided at its upper ledge with a button hole A, see Figs. 5 and 6. Obviously, when the pen is disposedrwithin the pocket, the member 46 of the separable fait tener is to be engaged through said button hole, whereupon. the tongues 42 is soswung upon its pivot, as to cause its member v44 of the separable fastener to engage said separable fast-ener 46, projecting through the pocket button hole, which will therefore pre-V vent any accidental displacement of the pen from the pocket.

Whenever it is desired to use the tool end 43 ofthe tongue 42 for performing any work, it is only necessary to remove the pivot 41 whereupon the tongues may be detached `from the hanger. j

It vill thus be seen thatV l have provided a highly novel, simple and highly efficient writing pin clip that is well adapted for all of the purposes heretofore designated, and even though. l have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements, ritis nevertheless to be. understood that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new is vl. In a pocket fastener forwriting pens,4 a member of a separable fastener carried by the pen and adapted for projection through a button hole opening formed in thefpocket,V and a tongue pivoted to the pen above said separable fastener member, said tongue being equipped at its lower' end with tlierotlier end of said separable fastener for engagement with said separable fastener as the same is projected through the pocket flap opening.
