GLUE DISPENSER.

This invention relates to improvements in dispensing devices, and has particular reference to a glue dispenser.V

The principal object of this invention 1s to provide in combination with a glue containing bottle, novel means for dispensing the glue and at the same time, means for retaining in position, a sponge which is the medium through which the glue is dispensed.

Another object of this invention is to provide a closure for the top of the container, whereby danger of leakage and of soiling the operators hands is reduced to a minimum.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a device which is simple in construction, positive in operation and one which is economical to manufacture and therefore well within the purchase price of the average user.

Other objects and advantages will be ap? parent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a glue dispenser with the closure means positioned thereon, and

Figure 2 is a transverse vertical section on an enlarged scale through a portion of the dispenser and closure, the viewy being taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.

In the dispensing of a liquid, such as glue, it often occurs that the hands of the user are soiled, and furthermore too much of the glue is frequently dispensed so that the surface being treated is rendered unsightly.

To overcome these diiiiculties and disadvantages, I have devised my present simply constructed sanitary dispensing means and closure for the bottle, whereby a fluid, such as glue, may be expelled without danger of an excess amount being dispensed from the container.

In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 3 designates a glue holding container having an annular recess 4t formed adjacent the upper extremity of the body portion of the container, and also being provided with a neck 5 which terminates in an annular ange 6.

The numeral 7 designates a collar preferably made of aluminum which is litted about the flange 6 and has its lower end beaded under the flange as at 8. The collar 7 is bent Interposedl between the sponge 13 and the vertical wall 12 of the container I have provided a tubular portion 14 of a celluloid member 15 which member 'rests upon the top wall of the container and being made of Celluloid Vprevents the sponge from adhering to the collar and likewise, retains the sponge in a fixed position Within the top of the container.

A packing such as indicated by the numeral 16 is also provided and eliminates any danger of seepage of glue through the collar and adjacent construction, when the inner cover or closure 17 and the outer cover 18 to be hereinafter described, are removed and the glue is being dispensed.

The inner closure 17 serves to cover the sponge 13 when the container is not in use and functions to prevent the depositing of dirt or any foreign substance on the sponge, while the outer container 18 is employed when a supply of the glue dispensers is being shipped, and also can be used on the container when the dispenser is positioned upon a desk or the like surface so that the appearance of the article may be enhanced.

In addition to the outer container 18 serving to prevent leakage of the glue during transit, I also propose to cement a cord as indicated by the numeral 19 to the lower end of the inner cover and position the same in the recess 11. The outer cover 18 referred to is preferably knurled as at 20 to facilitate an easy turning of the same, and is also depressed adjacent its lower extremity as at 21 so as to provide means for retaining the same within the annular recess 6 formed in the neck of the glue container.

This cover 18 is in practise passed through slots 22 formed in the neck of the container and after the depressions are received in the annular recess 6, the closure is given a halfturn and then locked in position as designat` ed to advantage in Figure 1.

From the foregoing description taken in connection With the accompanying drawings, it will be obvious that I have devised a simply constructed closure device Which Will serve to act as a positive means for preventing the excess dispensing of glue, While the device is being used, and a device which is simple,

neat in appearance and highly ecient in use. v

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

In combination With a glue dispenser and the neck thereof, of a sponge positioned in the neck of the container and protruding therefrom and means Jfor preventing a seepage of the glue through the neck ot the container, said means comprising a collar secured to the neck of the container and having an annular recess, a Celluloid member interposed between the collar and said sponge, a securing cord positioned in the recess of the collar and a removable inner cover 'or said sponge adapted to contact said collar.
