This invention relates to devices for drawing ofi' liquid from a container, and has par- ,ti'cular reference to animproved dispensing faucet, including means for forming an '5 openingin the container and -for attaching and sealing the faucet in said opening.
One of the principal objects of the present invention is to provide a dispensing ,de-
,vice which'in addition to affording means for puncturing and forming an outlet opening in a container, includes efiectual means for rigidly connecting the device within the 'opening and sealing the same against "leakof the sectionsin-one direction to clamp be-' tween said shoulders a container wall around an outlet opening in which the deadapted upon relative axial movement in the opposite direction to cause the contraction of the expansible shoulder to permit of its withdrawal through the opening in the container wall.
The invention furthermore aims to provide means located exteriorly of the container for efiectingthe expansion and allowing for the contraction of the expansible shoulder.
Other objects reside in the simplicity of COIlStIILCtlOD, the economy with which the device ma be produced, and the general efiiciency erived therefrom.
WVith the above recited and other objects in view, reference is had to the following specification and accompanying drawings in,
which there is exhibited one example or embodiment' of the inventionwhichis in no I vice is positioned, the said sections being In the drawings- Figure 1 is a side view of the device in applied sealed relation to the container;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentar enlarged sectional of reference, the device comprises a bodymember or section 10 of tubular, preferably cylindricah formation, which is closed by a head 11 at its outer end and which is open' at its inner end. The body section is formed with a boss 12 extending axially from its open end, which has an intermediate portion 13 of a reduced diameter with respect to the body 10 and forms at the juncture therewith a peripheral abutment shoulder 14. Theboss .12 is provided with a still further reduced diameter 15 forming at the juncture with the intermediate portion 13, an inclined or frusto-conic'al spreader shoulder 16. A shank member or'section 17 having an external diameter approximately equal to the diameter of the intermediate portion 13 and having an internal diameter approximately equal to the reduced diameter 15, is carried by or mounted on the boss 12 for axial movement toward and away from the abutment shoulder. The shank member or section 17 which is of tubular and preferably cylindrical configuratioh, has its outermost or forward end provided with circumferentially spaced inwardly extending slits 18 defining fingers 19, which render the forward or outy on the line 22 ermost end radially-expansible and normally contractable.- The shank section 17 is formed with a transverse web'20 having a central threaded opening 21 and apertures 22. A stem 23 is swiveled in the head 11 and is provided with an exteriorly disposed manipulating head 24, The opposite end of the stem 23 is threaded at 25 to engage in the threaded central opening of the web 20 so that upon turning movement of the stem 23, the shank section 17 'is axiallymoved in opposite directions.
In practice the'shank section has its rearmost end 26 shaped to provide a puncturing terminal which is adapted to be driven through the wall W of a container C for forming an outlet opening 0 therein. When the stem 23 is turned in one direction, the foremostor outermost end of the shank secand so as to be of a diameter equal to or less "than the diameter of the intermediate portion 13 whereby the device may be driven through the opening 0 in the wall W, until the shoulder 14 contacts with the outer surface of the wall around the opening. When the stem 23 is rotated in the opposite direction, the shank section 17 is advanced toward or further on to the boss 12 of the body section 10, whereby the .slitted end and the fingers defined thereby ridin over the inclined or frusto-conical shoul er 16, expand the end'so that the terminals of the fingers 19 constitute shoulders which engage behind and impinge the .wall around the opening 0 against the abutment shoulder 14.
' In addition to securely attaching the device to the container wall, it is obvious that a sealing of the shoulder thereagainst is effected while communication to the bodyis established through the open end of the shank sectionand the apertures 22 of the web. The body section 10 may have a valved outlet 27 to permit of the dispensing or drawing ofl of the contents. When the contents have been completely dispensed, it is obvious that by turning the stem 23 through the medium of the manipulatin head 24, the shank section 17 will be move in a rearwarddirection until the fingers or slitted end ride off of the intermediate portion 13 contracting to the smaller diameter of the boss so that withdrawal of the device through the opening 0 may be effected for removing the device from the container or receptacle.
What is claimed is:
1. A dispensing device for containers,
comprising a tubular body section and a tubular shank section, said body provided with a peripheral abutment shoulder, an intermediate portion of less diameter than said shoulder, and a third portion of still less diameter over'which said shank section telescopes, said shank having a radially expansible and normally contracted end, means on said intermediate portion coacting with the contractable and expansible end of the shank upon movement thereof toward the peripheral abutment shoulder for radially expanding said end to approximately the diameter \of the abutment shoulder, and means for moving said sections longitudinally of each other, whereby to grip the .container wall around an outlet opening in the container.
2. In a dispensing device of the character described, a tubular body section having a closed outer end, an intermediate portion of reduced external diameter defining an abutment shoulder and an inner-end of further reduced external diameter having a frustoconical shoulder at the juncture with the in termedi-ate portion, a tubular shank section having a rear pointed puncturing terminal anda forward end telescopically fitting over the inner end of the body section, the said forward end of the shank section being of the same external diameter as the inter-mediate port-ion of the body section and of the same internal diameter as the inner end of .said body section, the said forward end being slitted inwardly from the forward edge to provide radially expansible fingers en- ,gageable with the frusto-conical shoulder upon axial inovement of the shank section toward the abutment shoulder for expanding the fingers to engage with the inner side of the wall of a container around the punctured outlet opening for impin ing and sealing the abutment shoulder against the-outersurface of said wall.
3. A dispensing device adapted to fit in an opening in a container, comprising a pair of tubular members, one of which telescopes over the other, one of said members having a peripheral shoulder adapted to abut against the outer surface of the container,
the other member having an end provided with contractable and expansible parts adapted to abut against the inner surface of the container, and means for drawingthe two members toward each other, whereby the wall of the container may be clamped between said shoulders on said parts.
4. A dispensing device adapted to fit in an opening in a container comprising a pair oftubular members, one of which telescopes over the other, one of said members having whereby the wall of the container may be clamped between said shoulders on said parts.
5. A dispensing device for containers comprising a tubular body section and a tubular shank section, said-body section being provided with a peripheral abutment shoulder, an intermediate portion of less diameter than said shoulder, and a-third part of still less diameter over which said shank section telescopes, said shank having a radially expansible and normally contracted end, means on said intermediate portion coacting with the contractable and expansible end of the shank upon movement thereof toward the peripheral abutment shoulder for radially expanding said end to approximately the diameter of the abutment shoulder whereby to grip the container wall around an outlet opening therein, said body section having a closed outer end, and a discharge outlet between the container wall and, the closed end.

A dispensing device comprising a tubular body member having a closed outer end and an open reduced inner end providin a peripheral abutment shoulder, a tubu ar shank member having a pointed rearmost end for puncturin the wall of a container, said shank mem er being telescopically mounted on said reduced inner end of the bod member and slitted longitudinally from its oremost edge to provide a radially contractable and expansible end, and means on the reduced end of the body -member coacting with the slotted endof the shank section for expanding the same upon axial movement of the shank member toward said abutment shoulder, and means for movingsaid members telescopically of each other, whereby said slotted end cooperates with the abutment shoulder of the body member to clamp the wall of a. container around an opening formed by the shank, to rigidly support and seal the dispensing device in the container opening.
8. A dispensing faucet for containers, comprisingm pair of telescopically associated inner and outer tubular members, the inner member havinga puncturing terminal adapted to be driven through the wall of a container to form an voutlet opening, the
outer member having a closed outer end provided with a valve and having a peripheral abutment shoulder of greater diameter than the normal diameter of the inner member, the inner member having one end expansible upon axial movement of the members toward each other, and means for moving said members longitudinally of each other, whereby to cause said end to coact with said abutment shoulder to clamp the wall of the container around the punctured outlet openlng. A dispensing faucet for containers comprising a pair of telescopically associated inner and outer tubular members, the inner member having a puncturing terminal adapted to bedriven through the wall of a container to form an outlet opening, the outer member having a closed outer end and provided with a valve and having a peripheral abutment shoulder of greater diameter than the normal diameter of the inner member, the inner member having its outermost en'd expansible upon axial movement of'the members toward each other to a container to form an outlet opening, the. outer member having a closed outer end provided With a valve exteriorly of thecontainer and having a peripheral abutmentshoulder of greater diameter than the normal diameter of the inner member, said 'inner member having its outermost end expansible upon relative axial movement ofthe members toward each other, wher'eby to cause said outermost end to coact with the peripheral abutment shoulder to clamp the container wall around the punctured opening, said outermost end upon axial movement of the members in the o posite direction being radially contractab e, and interconnected means for moving said sections longitudinally of each other, whereby topermit the withdrawal of the faucet from the wall opening of the container.
