This invention relates to improvements in furnaces, and more particularly to that type whichis employed for heating houses, and
i may be used with either hot water or steam ri heating systems.
The object of my invention is to .provide a furnace of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, which may be easily and quickly installed.
A further object is to provide a furnace of the steam or hot water type which may be easily handled by being formed with a base section and a boiler section and a cap section, the base section including the grate, ash pit and a portion of the lire pot, while the boiler section is formed in a separate unit` and designed to rest on top of the base section and includes a portion of the lire pot.
A further object is to provide in a iurnace simple and inexpensive means whereby combustion will be completed'when thek furnace is in operation, to reduce the amount of soot and similar` carbonaceous substances which usually gather onk thepinner :tace oi' the flue and require constant cleaning.
A'further object is to provide in a furnace an improved lire pot whereby a lining of heat insulating material may be easilyand quickly removed or replaced. p
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various part-s of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanyingk drawings, in which:

My improved furnace comprises a base section 10 formed cylindrical and of cast metal, said base having its inner face provided with an inwardly projecting rib 1l about midway between its bottom and top. Said rib and the member 10 are provided with a series of inwardly projecting brackets vl2, each of said brackets having at its upper edge a notch 13. Said notches 13 are dein the usual manner. The member ll is preferably formed of two picees having their adjacent ends joined together Vby means of bolts 16. Said member 11i is provided 4with an upwardly extending rib 17. The member le' and the top of the rib 11 are ina com-k mon horizontal plane. The outer edge of the member 141 and the rib 11 provide means for supporting a tier of lire brick 18 adjacent to the inner tace oi' the base member 10, clearly illustrated in Figure 1.
rlhe upper edge of the base member 10 lis provided with an inwardly extending flange portion 19 which rests above the top edge 'of the brick lining 18. The width of the flange 19 is substantially equal to the thickness of the lining wall of the member 10. One side of the member 10 is provided with a clinker door 2() and an ash and draft door 21. The inner edge of the member 19 is designed to support a boiler portion 22 which is also formed cylindrical and have ing a bottom plate 23 and a top plate 24;.
'The bottom plate 23 is provided with an opening 25 which is ci considerable size and placed eccentrically with the outer cylinder wall 22. The said opening 25 is designed to receive an upwardly extending tubular member 2G having a top plate 27. One side ofthe member 26 is provided with a door casing 28 which extends through both the outer wall 22 and the tubular member 26, said casing being located at the upper end of the member 26, asclearly shown in Fig ure 1. The top plate 24 is provided with an opening 29 arranged vertically above the opening 25. The opening 29 is provided with an upwardly extending tubular mem- Y ber 30 havingy a top head member 31. The
head members 23 and 241 areprovided with a series of vertical tlues 32, the lower ends of which communicate with the interior of the base 10, while the upper ends communicate with a hot air chamber 33 formed by means of a cylindrical cap 34 designed to rest on top ci the member 22 in a detachable manner.

Suitable outlet pipes 3S may be provided in the head 3l, while inlet pipes 39 are mounted in the lower end of the boiler member 22.
By this construction it will be seen that the lower end of the cylindrical member 2G is in communication with the fire pot and that the door casing 28 is located a considerable distance above said lire pot.
ln actual operation, the fuel is delivered through the dooi` casing 2S and to the grate bars l5 in such a manner that the member 26 serves as a magazine for feeding fuel to the grate, said magazine being partially or wholly illed. rlhe top surface of the fuel inclined downwardly and rearwardly from the back side of the lower end of the mem beil 26, so that a combustion chamber a0 is provided beneath the end of the 'liues The heated gases will be drawn upwardly through the said flues and into the lower chamber 33 and around the ell 3G and over the front edges of the baffle plate 86 and into the smoke stach. The boiler may be i'illed to a point slight-ly above the head 24e, if it is desired to be used for steam heating, in which case the member 3() serves the purpose of a steam dome. The heated gases passing around the outer surface of said dome serve to dry the steam to a certain eX- tent, so that nothing but dry steam is fed 'to the radiators, and thereby reducing the amount of water returned from condensation.
By placing the magazine member 26 near the front side of the tire pct, it will be seen that the fuel will be piled adjacent to the side above the draft or opening 2l, and that the bottom of the pile of fuel will become intensely heated and the lower end of the pile of fuel in the magazine 2G will be ome .heated and the gases will be drawn downwardly tI rough the heated fuel in the fire pot. A certain amount of draft. is permitted to enter through the door opening 28. By this method the carbon of the gases will be consumed before the products of combustion reach the vertical flues 32, and thereby eliminate any carbonaceous deposits on the inner surface of said flues, and eliminating the necessity of having to clean the same. On account of the llues being vertical, any ashes or similar mateial will be drawn upwardly through the flues or will settle back on the grates. Any material being drawn upwardly will be 'deposited on the upper face of the plates 2d and 36 where can be easily removed tlirough suitable cleanout doors By providing the Vring 17 and the inwardly projecting fla-nge l1, l have provided means whereby the interior of the lire pot themember 19, so that the nished furnacel has Va cylindrical formationand is compact and neat in appearance'.
lf the flues 32 should becomev foul after being iii use for some length of time, they may be easily and quickly cleaned by simply removing the cover plates 35 and the baille plates 36, which are detachably secured in position by means of suitable bolts 43.
Thus it will be seen I have provided a furnace of simple, durable andv inexpensive construction, which may be used equally well with either hot water' or steaml heating systems, and which is very compact when assembled and easy to handle while being erected, due to they fact that it is formed in three sections which are assembled by simply placing` one section on top of the other.
I claim as my invention:
l. A furnace comprising a base member including a fire pot, a boilermeinberdetachL ably mounted above said base member, said boiler member being provided with a verv tically arranged magazine having its lower end communicating with thev top of the chamber within sai-dy tire pot and its top. end
