The invention relates to shi in` boxes` and more particularly to those boxes which are-formed of sheet material suchk as iibre board. f Hertofore, libre board shipping boxes have been impractical for use in shipping heavy articles because they wouldy break or crack due to the weight and pressure of the articles. Thev primary objectof the present invention is to providea fibre boardA shipping box whichwill withstand severe handling and will not break or crack when used for shippingheavy: articles. The top, bottom and sides of this box are constructed so that each consists of an inner and outer fibre board wall andseparately formed hollow cylindrical reinforcing members which are disposed between and are secured to the walls. v i

The invention isexemplitied in a rectan- `guiar shipping box comprising sides 10, a top 11 and abottom 12. Each side consists of` an outer wall 13' and anninner wall 14 rvwhich is spaced from the outer wall as hereinafter described. The outer walls 13 are formed from a stripof libre board which isy creased as at 15 to forni the corners of -thebox and has itsV end margins secured together-by a strip 16 of Aadhesive-tape. Theinner walls 14 are alsovformed of libre vided with upwardly extending marginal `walll22 a hollow compartment 11a.

Each of the flaps 2O abuts against and is.` glued to the marginal portion' 21v on the outer wall 13 of the side which is contiguous to it. Eachof vthe fiaps 19 abuts against and is kglued toV one of `the side Vmargins of inner wall V14 of the `side .which is contiguous to it.V By gluing flapsl) and Haps 2O 'as set vforththe corners of the box arestrengthened softhat they will withstand severe handlingwithout breaking and will prevent thesidesfl() from collapsing. y
Top 11 consists of anfouter wall 22 and an inner wall ,23 both of which are formed of fibre board. The inner wall 23 is proflaps 24 which have their upper edges glued to wall 22. These flaps Yare spacedl inwardly from the edges of wall 22 and are adaptedfto engage the upper margins of walls 14 when the topcis in its operative position. Flaps 24 serve as spacingfmeans for Vwall 23 and form with the lat-ter and The exposed margins of wall 22 rest upon flaps 17 when the top is' in its yoperative position. 95 To secure'the topfin this position iiaps 24 are glued to the upper margins of walls 14 and iiaps 17 are glued to the margins of wall 22. To additionally secure top 11 in 'its-operative position, a pairof yextensions 100y 25 are provided. These. yextensions are `formed integrally with the outer walls 13 of two of the sides and are adapted toy be folded over outer 'wall 22. Extensions yand an innervtibre board wall 27 which is provided with downwardly extending flaps 1,10V

The bottom is additionally secured in place by a pair of vextensions 29 which are similar to extensions 25. A shipping boX comprising a top, bot tom, and sides, each of said sides consisting of an inner and outer wall of sheet material, and hollow cylindrical members between and extending transversely to the walls, said members being held inv abutting relation and operating to reinforce the walls of said sides.

A shipping box comprising a top, bottom, and sides, each of which consists of an inner and outer wall of sheet material, and cylindrical reinforcing members between and extending transversely to the walls, said members having their sides rigidly connected ',togeth'er and their ends secured respectively to said inner and outer walls.
7. A shipping box comprising a top, bottom,.and sides, each'of which consists of inner and outer wall of sheet material, said inner wall havingoutwardly extending marginal flaps secured to lthe marginal parts of ythe outer `wall and operative to space the walls apart, and reinforcing members substantially filling the lspace between the walls of said top, bottom and sides.
