G. A. PARKER STAPLE Filed Feb. 2, 1927 v INVENTOR.
A TTORN'E Patented Dec. 11, 1928.
PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. PARKER, OF BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
STAPLE.
Application filed February 2, 1927. Serial No. 165,330.
The invention has relation to staples, and it consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as set forth in the appended claims.
The ohieot of the invention is to provide an improved staple having an insulation of wood fiber.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention, Figure l is a perspective view of the staple; Figure 2 is an edge view of the same; Figure 3 is a detail plan'view of a single form of staple; Figure 4 is a detail plan view of the double staple with insulation of wood fiber applied thereto, and Figure 5 is a perspective view of the same.
In these drawings the letter a designates the staple, having opposite flat parallel sides I), and approximatel parallel tapered pointed shanks c, 0, one o 'hich, 0, is usually longer than the other.
The pointed tapered shanks c, c are of arrow head form and differing lengths and are provided with contracted necks e immediately adjacent to and connecting the same with the head (1 of the staple. The top of the staple head is provided with a fiat face f at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the longer of the staple shanks 0, thereby facilitating the driving of the staple in the work.
The insulation of wood fiber 11 applied to the staple is pressed upon thepointedshanks c, 0, into engagement with the contracted necks e of said shanks, whereb the fiber insulation is held from escape y the shoulderlegd portions of said shanks adjacent said nec s.
The fiber insulation is usually folded longitudinally as shown, with both layers It and 71, thereof located close to the staple head and engaged with the contracted neck 6 of the longer of said shanks, the outer layer being engaged with the contracted neck of the shorter shank and the inner layer located over and guarding the point of the shorter shank.
Reference is made to applicants co-pending application for machine for punching staples and providing the same with wood fiber insulation, filed August 3, 1926, Serial N 0. 126,872 for the nature of the staple and its wood fiber insulation.
I- claim:
'1. A staple having pointed tapering shanks of differing lengths and of arrow head form provided with contracted necks immediately adjacent to and connecting the same with the head of the staple.
2. A staple having pointed tapering shanks of differing lengths and of arrow head form provided with contracted necks immediately adjacent to and connecting the same with the head of the staple, and double insulation layers both of which are located close to the staple head and engaged with the contracted neck of the longer of said shanks, the outer layer being engaged with the contracted neck of the shorter shank and the inner layer being located over and guarding the point of the shorter shank.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GEORGE A. PARKER.
