Filed sept.9, 1926 asusta-Sheet 5 Fiff5' on the nozzles which latter can be properlyl levelled, by adjustment relatively to the tube 1, thereby ensuring equality ot' depth in the dipping' ot the members 3 into the chocolate, or other confectionery material The contracted shape ot the member 3 is shown by the dotted lines 3b. The member 3 -isalso Vheld securely in position by suitable tying,l
or other means and by means oiE a cylindrical member or sleeve 5, adiustably secured to the'nozzle 1L and him/ing a 'tapered end 5 to suit the shape of aliange 3C 'which is provided on the member 3 and adapted to regulate the size oi the opening in lthe shell 6 4(see 2) formed on the outside of the member 3. The flange Se is made with a slightly tapered portion where it leaves the member '3 and terminates in a' vertical portion. The uprising flange 3C ensures the formation ofY substantially uniform openings in the shells should the members 3 be dipped to depths greater than normal.
Fig. 2 shows the member 3 withdrawn from the chocolate 4 and showing the chocolate shell (5 formed thereon, the nozzle and member 3 and the shell 6 being shown about to be lowered on to the supporting plate 7, slidable on runners 7b and shaped with depressions 7LL therein. Y
Instead of the member 3,'as shown at Figs. 1 and 2, an expansible member 8 may be provided which is adapted to be expandedAmeohanically. Such an arrangement is shown at Figs. il andf4, Fig. 3 showing' a member 8 unexpanded and Fig. 4 showing a member 8 expanded. ln the example shown expansion olf each member Sis obtained by means of a rod i), to which attached two grooved and slotted discs 10 and 11 to which, in turn, are
attached any required number of ribs 12 and 12a respectively, which are led 'through slots 13 in an outer tube 13 and arev connected at their outer ends` to stretchers 14, bearing on the inner surface ot the 'member 8. The tube All'is lengthwise adjustable, by means of a lturnbuclrle 13', so that the member 8 may be properlv levelled, and the length of the rod 9 may oe adjusted by screwingit more or less through a supporting,` plate .15 or by means of a turnbuclrle 9'. The lower ribs 1.2u are curved as shown to give horizontal. expansion of the stretchers 14 by bearing;` on the bottom ot the lots 13u so that as the rod 9 is lowered, the ribs 12a will force out the stretchers 14 to the position shown at` Fig'. 4. Any means may be employed to raise and lower the rod 9 relatively to the tube 13.
QFor illustration purposes only, the rod 9 is shown attached to the plate 1 5 and the tube 3- shown at 1 and the subsequent opera- Ation is exactly the same describedr with reference to Figl. Any suitable number ot stretchers 14 may be employed and attached to the-required number of ribs 12 and 12. By. increasing or decreasing the number' oi stretchers the shape oit the member 8 can be controlled andthe shape ycan be further or alternatively controlled by suitable shaping of the stretchers 14 and also by suitable positioning of the stretchers 14 so that a square, l exagonal, cylindrical or other shape can be readily obtained as desired.
The cxpansible members 3 or 8, shown at Figs. 1 or 3 could be operated for dipping by a machine' such as illustrated at Figs. 9 and 10. The machine shown comprises a pan, or tank, 4a of confection 4 which is preferably automatically heated to the proper temperature for dipping the expansiblc members thereinto. The members 3, connected by their tubes lrwith the tank 2 are supplied with Huid under pressure from the tank 2, which tank has two valves 2ZL and 2b one of which is the inlet valve .and the other the outlet valve, fluid under pressure being admitted by say the valve 2fL whilstthe valve 2 anexhaust valve to which, il necessary, an exhaust pump can be attached for the deflation of the members 3. rllhe members 8 are lowered and raised into and out of the confectionery material 4 through the medium ot racks :18 and `minions 19 on a shai't 19V :driven by any suitable means.
l/Vhen the members B have been dipped and raised with the confection-material thereon to form the shells, the plate 7 is then pushed into position below theimembers 3 which are lowered until the forme-dv shells rest in the hollovfs "il ot the plate 7 where they are allowed to set.
lWhen .the shells are set the members 3 are de'tlated and withdrawn leaving,` the shells resting` on the plates 7 as shown at Fig. 7. 'lhey can then be filled with filling; material. 6*" in any usual manner and they may be 'lapped by providingY suitable capping' trays 20 which, in the example shown, are supported on reversible supports 21. The capping material is filled into the trays 20 as shown at Fig. 5 and when the material is almost set the supports 21 are reversed as shown at Fig. 6 and the apparatus lowered until the caps fit over the openings Gbin the confections 6. f
