ROLLER RAIL FOR HEAT-Tamarind rurmAcEs.
.Application filed. February 8, 1928. Serial No. 252,930. I
' My invention relates to improvements in roller rails for conveying carburizing boxes.
shape to such a degree as to throw the bearing recesses out of alinement which interferes with the action of the rollers and with'the free passage of boxes upon the rollers. I have discovered that if the roller supporting side member is connected by portions integral therewith which are located adjacent to the lower edges of the sides at points beneath the rollers and are spaced away from said lower edge so as to be located at points adjacent to the upper edges of the sides at points between said recesses, theobj-ectionable distortion is largely reduced and practically eliminated.
The following is adescription of an em-- bodiment of my invention reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a roller rail embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a portion of the same on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 -3, Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 44, Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is a plan View of a clamp for holding two sections together.
Referring more particularly to the drawings. 2 and 4 are the side members of a base provided at their upper edges with alining bearing recesses 6- for trunnions 8 of rollers having central enlargements 10. The peripheral surfaces of these enlargements are spherical and preferably have a radius of about two inches. The side members are connected together at points 12 beneath the rollers by portions integral with said side members, and at points 14: between the recesses and adjacent to the upper edges of the side members and spaced away from the-lower edges by other portions integral with said side members. Preferably the connecting portions are continuous with one another so as to form an gndulating web throughout the length of the-- With my construction the upper edges of the rail are held at a fixed distance from one another by the connections at 14 betweentherecesses, and the lower edgesof the side portionsof the rail are held in fixed distance from one another by the portions at 1 2 beneath the recesses;- v
In practice both-the support and rollers are made of a heat'resisting alloy so as to withstand the intense heat of the heat treat-. ing furnace. i A
The support rests upon the floor 16 of thefurnace and may be composed of sections held 0 together by clamps 18 embracing ears 20 on the adjacent ends of the-sections and bolts 22 whichpass through both the clamps and the ears.
The receiving end of the roller rail is provided with a depending portion 24 anchoring the rail to the furnace bottom againstthrust dug to shovingthe boxes toward the delivery en I 26 is a skid rail at the delivery end of the roller rail.
As will be evident to those skilled in the art, my invention permits variousmodifications without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claims' What I claim is i 1. A roller rail for heat'treating furnaces consisting of' two side members having at their upper edges alining bearing recesses and portions integral with said side vmembers connecting said side members together at pointsv adjacent to their lower edges and beneath said bearing'recesses and at points spaced away from said lower edges and between said reccsses, and rollers in said recesses.
2. A roller rail for heat treating furnaces consisting of two side members having at. their upper edges alining bearing recesses and portions integral with said side members connecting said side'members together at points adj acent'to their lower edges and beneath said bearing recesses and at points spaced away from said lower edges and adjacent to said in said recesses.
-3. A roller rail for heat treating furnaces upper edges between said recesses, and rollers consisting of two side members having at the1r upper edges alining bearing recesses and portions integral with-said side members connecting sald side members together at points adjacent to their lower edges and beneath said bearing recesses and at points spaced away from said lower edges and between said recesses, and rollers in said recesses, said con- 5 necting portions'being continuous so as to forma web. i
4. A roller rail for heat treatin furnaces consisting of two side members a'ving at their upper edges alining bearing recessesand' portions integral with said side members connecting said side members together at points adjacent to their lower edges and beneath said bearing recesses and at points spaced away from said lower edgesand adjacent to said upper edges between said recesses, and rollers in said recesses, said connecting portions being continuous so as to form a web.
In testimony whereof, I have 'si ed my name to this specification this 3r day of February, 1928.
JOSEPH SAMMON.
