. Application filed; necember 11, 1926. Serial lea-154,073.
This invention relates to lamp posts such as used for supporting street lamps. The
base, a column, anda cap, the cap being surmounted by the bracket which carries thelamp or lamps. The foundation bolts are within the periphery of thebaseand in erecting the postthebase must be put in position and secured to. thefoundation,"and on this 1 base the column and cap are secured. This necessitates the. transportation of the sepairate parts to the point. where the post is :to'
be setup, and also requires special operations in erecting the post. 4 j g The general object of'this invention is to provide a ready-built post, in which'the base, the column, and the cap are permanently se-' cured together and to a base plate which seats upon the foundation; and to construct the. post in such a way that the complete post can e readily set up on the foundation.
Further objects of the invention will appear hereinafter. Y
The invention consists of the novel parts and combination of parts to be described hereinafter, all of which contribute to produce an efiicient ready-built lamp post. t
A preferred embodiment of the invention is described in the following specification, while the broad scope of the invention-is pointed out in the appended claims.
The accompanying drawings-illustrate th invention:
Figure 1 is a side elevation and partial section through a lamp-post embodying my invention, and also showing thefoundation in cross-section. 1
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on an enlarged scale taken through the base of the post upon the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the lin 7 33 of Fig. 2 and broken away.
Fig; l is a horizontal cross-section taken on the line H of Fig. 1 and particularly illustrating the arrangement of the tie bolts which attach the parts together.
In practicing the invention I provided a hollow base 1 which is open at its lower end, and provided at its upper end with a trans- 50 verse head or fiange 2 at which point the base is formed with a neck 3 of reduced diameter. At thebase of the neck a circumferential shoulder 4 is formed. The neck 3 is received lower endof thecolumn being seated against the shoulder 4. usual construction for lamp posts includes a On the upper end of the column 5 a cap 6 is'received, said cap having areduced neck 7 The cape is hollow andprovided 'at its upper! end with a transverse head 'or ring 9. v The lower end of the base 1s received on a base plate or base ring 10. The base may be p of octagonal form and thebase ring'may be provided with a shoulder 11 whichextends around the base ring to fit the octagonal shape of-thezbasel In other Words, the upper side of the base ringlias a short octagonal neck p of the cap, passing down through the column 5' and through the head or ring2 at the upper end of the base. There are preferably three of these tie rods, and their threaded ends are provided with nuts 13 for tighteningthem up. These tie rods securely connect the base, 7
the column, and the cap together. The base ring 10 is secured to the base by "whichprojects up into the base at its lower I means of tie rods 14, preferablythree in number, the upper ends of which are attached to the head oriring 2, and thelower ends of Y which pass downwardly through the base ring; the lower portions of the tie rods 14 are off-set outwardly on account of the expanded 1 width of the lower end of the base. The
threaded ends of the tie rods 14 are provided with nuts 15 for tightening these rods.
The base ring 10 is preferably of ring form in order to provide a central opening 16 through it which enables it to receive the upper ends of elbows 17 of conduits 18 which bring the electric wires 19 into the base. i If desired, the base 1 may be provided with a door 20 to giveaccess to these wires.
If desired, the inner face of the base may beprovided with a flange 21 which SeatsupOn the innerand raised portion of the base ring."
